WARDOGS is built, per outside trackers who have mapped the progression system and the changelog’s own track-by-track unlock headers, on two levels at once: an account-wide Career (Wardog) level, and the role tracks — five named in the changelog (Medic, Support, Driver, Pilot, Recon) plus a sixth that outside trackers call Assault — that level up based on what you’re playing as in a given life. Season 1, published as a Pre-Load changelog on 9 September 2026 — the day before the 10 September Early Access launch — rewrote the XP curve so that levels 10 – 20 take noticeably longer and the climb flattens out from level 35 onward. This guide covers how that curve actually reads, which unlocks moved, what’s genuinely fast to level toward, and what BULKHEAD still hasn’t told anyone.

TL;DR

  • Career (Wardog) level is the account-wide level; the role tracks (Medic, Support, Driver, Pilot, Recon named by BULKHEAD, plus Assault per outside trackers) level separately based on your loadout in a given life — how Career relates to them is not published
  • Season 1 slowed levels 10 – 20 and flattened the curve from 35 onward, with BULKHEAD targeting a median player around level 20 at 20 – 25 hours of play
  • Only two per-action XP values were published as changed: air-vehicle kills (300 to 250 XP) and cheap supply-crate sales (25 to 1 XP) — everything else is unpublished
  • Several unlocks moved level in Season 1, including Artillery Tank to Career level 90 and Heavy Tank to Driver level 35
  • Joining a server BULKHEAD tracks as an XP farm for more than a few minutes is a permanent ban, separate from the timed ban and reset for cash-exploit abuse

What Is the WARDOG Level and the Role Tracks in WARDOGS?

Your account-wide Career level, often called your Wardog level, sits alongside the role tracks, which level up according to what you’re carrying or driving during a match rather than a class you pick from a menu. Outside trackers describe Career as the combined total of the tracks; BULKHEAD’s changelog gives Career unlock levels (Deagle 85, Artillery Tank 90) and a role-track XP table and no formula between them, so treat the “sum of the tracks” reading as community modelling, not a published rule. This structure is how outside trackers who have mapped the progression system describe it, and BULKHEAD’s own changelog headers line up with it: unlock changes are listed under Career, Medic, Support and Driver, with Pilot appearing as the track a specific item moved out of. Players care about this because unlocks are gated by whichever track (or the Career total) actually reaches the required level, so the track you play the most is the one that unlocks fastest.

For a deeper breakdown of how each track actually levels during a match, the site’s role tracks explainer covers what loadout choices push which track.

How XP Works: The Season 1 XP Curve

BULKHEAD explained the reasoning for the rebalance directly in the changelog: “we have decided to slow levels down around 10 to 20, and flatten the curve from 35 onward. This means our median players, at 20 to 25 hours, will be around level 20, and those wanting the big ticket items, the top 5%, will need to grind.” That’s the studio’s own framing for why the numbers below look the way they do — levels below 6 were left untouched, and each season is expected to run its own curve and its own item order going forward, so Season 1’s numbers are not meant to be permanent.

+124%XP required to reach level 20
9,250XP needed for level 6
1MXP needed for level 50

Two readings of that table matter more than the headline. First, “% slower” in the changelog means more XP required: level 20 now needs 250,000 cumulative XP instead of 111,500 (+124.2%). Whether it takes 124% longer depends on how fast you earn XP, and the same patch also changed XP rewards — so treat the percentage as a requirement change, not a stopwatch. Second, the cost is not evenly spread: from the published thresholds, 15 → 20 costs 140,000 XP, 20 → 25 costs 75,000, 25 → 30 costs 75,000, 30 → 35 costs 100,000, 35 → 40 and 40 → 45 cost 150,000 each, 45 → 50 costs 200,000. The five levels after 20 are cheaper than the five before it; the wall is 15 → 20, and the long stretch starts at 35. BULKHEAD’s “median player around level 20 at 20–25 hours” is the studio’s reference point for a typical player on one track — it is not a target you owe anyone, and how the Career level accrues relative to the tracks is not published. Level 50 is the highest row published; no track cap has been confirmed.

The full breakdown of exactly which bands moved and by how much is covered in more depth in the site’s Season 1 XP curve write-up, which focuses specifically on the 10 – 20 slowdown.

Which Actions Earn XP in WARDOGS?

BULKHEAD published exactly two per-action XP changes in the Season 1 changelog: a player kill using an air vehicle dropped from 300 XP to 250 XP, and selling a supply-crate item worth under $75 dropped from 25 XP down to just 1 XP, closing off a low-value farming loop. Beyond those two changes, BULKHEAD has not published what any individual action — a revive, a spot, a Control Zone tick, a ground-vehicle kill — is actually worth in XP. The published table is a list of cumulative level thresholds, not a rate of earning: this changelog changed two rewards, and the remaining per-action values we have not verified in the current build. The Career level has no published XP table; BULKHEAD has not said how it accrues, and the community reading that it is the sum of the track levels is unverified.

Team17’s own page says teamplay actions — reviving allies, transporting teammates, spotting, kills and holding the Control Zone — are rewarded; our money guide covers the cash side. No official source ties a specific XP number to any of those actions, and cash rewards are not evidence of XP rewards: the two are separate counters.

Warning

BULKHEAD says it tracks every server an account enters and knows which ones exist purely to farm XP. If your account is tracked joining one of those servers for more than a few minutes, the ban is permanent — there’s no warning tier for this one, unlike the timed ban and cash/XP reset applied to cash-exploit abuse.

Two different goals, two different plans. Pick yours first; the steps below cover both. Everything here is built on the published changelog and Team17's description of what pays — where an action is our reading rather than a documented XP source, it says so.

  1. 1

Decide: one item on one track, or the Career total?

If you want a specific unlock (Heavy Tank at Driver 35, URAL Attack at Driver 25, PP-19 drum at Medic 29), you level that one track and nothing else matters. If you want the Career (Wardog) number itself, remember that BULKHEAD has not published how it accrues (outside trackers model it as the sum of the tracks) — and the first levels of every track are the cheapest in the table (below level 6 unchanged, level 6 at 9,250 XP). Spreading early sessions across two or three tracks is our reading of that maths, not a measured "fastest" route.

  2. 2

Load out for the track you are levelling

Tracks level from what you carry or drive in a life (per the changelog's track-by-track unlock headers and our role tracks explainer). Driver: take the wheel of a URAL (Driver 3) or Kodiak Assault (Driver 6) and move squads; Pilot: fly transport before you chase air kills (250 XP each after Season 1); Medic: defibrillator and revives; Support: hammer and Forward Operating Base builds, resupply; Recon: spot with binoculars; Assault: rifle and the objective. Which of these actions pays how much XP is not published — what is documented is that teamplay actions are rewarded at all.

  3. 3

Play inside the Control Zone, and treat the Hot Zone as a tactical call

Holding the zone is on Team17's list of rewarded actions. The Hot Zone doubles team presence and cash per BULKHEAD; nothing published says it doubles XP, so go there for the win and the money, not on the assumption it levels you faster.

  4. 4

    Skip the two nerfed shortcuts

Selling supply-crate items under $75 now pays 1 XP (was 25) and air-vehicle kills pay 250 (was 300). Neither is worth building a session around any more.

  5. 5

Check the result on the armoury screen, not the scoreboard

Locked items show the track and level that unlocks them; note your track levels before a session and after it. Three sessions give you your own rate — the only XP-per-hour figure that is real, because BULKHEAD does not publish one.

  6. 6

Level only on official servers or community servers you know

BULKHEAD tracks every server you enter; more than a few minutes on a server it classes as an XP farm is a permanent ban. Our community servers guide covers how to tell them apart.

Milestone Unlocks Worth Leveling For in Season 1

Season 1 moved a long list of unlock levels around, and a few of them are worth knowing before you decide which track to grind first. The table below lists every confirmed move from the changelog. Read the level as the gate, not the price: reaching it makes the item available in the armoury; most items are then bought with cash each life at the vendor price (the money guide lists the Season 1 prices).

Myth-Busting: What Isn't Actually Confirmed About Leveling

“Role tracks cap at level 100 and the account caps at 600”

This number circulates on community wikis and guide sites, but it is not in BULKHEAD’s own changelog. At least one community hub directly disputes it, pointing to unlock tables that list items up to Wardog level 150 with role-track unlocks stopping at 50 in their own data — a level cap simply hasn’t been published, and the 100/600 figure should be treated as unconfirmed rather than fact.

“The Patch 0.11 5% bonus speeds up leveling”

Patch 0.11 — announced 12 September 2026 and applied during the 14 September 08:00 UTC maintenance — added a community-server bonus described in the official post as a 5% end-of-match cash bonus. Nothing in that post ties the bonus to XP — it’s cash only, as written.

“Bulkhead has published exact XP values for every action”

Only two per-action XP changes made it into the Season 1 notes: the air-vehicle kill nerf and the cheap supply-crate sale nerf. Everything else — revives, spots, ground kills, FOB ticks — has no published number attached to it.

Our Take: Is the Season 1 Grind Worth Pushing Through?

Our Take

The wall is 15 → 20, not 20 onward: the five levels after 20 are cheaper than the five before it, and the long game starts at 35.

BULKHEAD said the quiet part out loud in the changelog: the top-tier gear is meant for players willing to grind, and the curve is built to sort casual players from that top 5% rather than hide the difference. That’s an honest design choice, even if it means the back half of a role track’s XP requirements sit well past what a median player will see in their first few weeks. Whether that pacing feels fair or just slow depends entirely on how much you enjoy the moment-to-moment matches, since nothing here rewards grinding a mode you don’t actually like playing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between my Wardog level and my role track level?
Your Career (Wardog) level is the account-wide level with its own unlocks (Deagle at 85, Artillery Tank at 90). How it accrues relative to the role tracks — Medic, Support, Driver, Pilot and Recon in BULKHEAD's changelog, plus Assault per outside trackers — has not been published; the "sum of the tracks" description comes from community trackers, not the studio.
How much XP do I need to hit level 20 in Season 1?
250,000 cumulative XP on a role track, up from 111,500 pre-Season 1 — a 124.2% increase, and the single biggest jump anywhere in the published table.
Does the Patch 0.11 bonus give extra XP?
No. The official Patch 0.11 post describes the community-server bonus as a 5% end-of-match cash bonus; it isn't stated to affect XP at all.
Can I get banned for using an XP-farming server?
Yes. BULKHEAD tracks every server an account joins and says being tracked on a known XP-farm server for more than a few minutes results in a permanent ban — a separate, harsher penalty than the timed ban and cash/XP reset applied to cash-exploit abuse. The site's Patch 0.11 maintenance and ban rules article covers all three enforcement tiers in full.
Will Season 2 use the same XP curve as Season 1?
No indication of that. BULKHEAD stated directly that each season will run a different XP curve with a different item order, meaning the Season 1 table above is expected to be replaced rather than carried forward.
