Space Marine 2’s Tactical rework is live: Patch 15.0 shipped on 1 October 2026 and replaced eleven slots of the Tactical perk tree, reworked Marked for Death, moved Kraken Penetrator rounds into the starting perk and gave the class a melee path. Below is every slot that changed, what a ranged and a melee Tactical now look like, and what the patch did to the weapons around them. The same patch added Chaos Siege and Crucible Mode.
TL;DR
- Live since Patch 15.0 (1 October 2026): Tactical can take a Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer, and then cannot equip a primary
- Tactical Reserve (level 9, replaces Signal Jammer) swaps the secondary for a Primary Bolt Rifle — two primaries for a ranged build
- Auspex Scan stacks less: Expert Timing, Precise Calibration and Concentrated Fire are gone; Marksman’s Mandate (+40% ranged) and Bladesman’s Mandate (+60% melee) sit on top of the base +50% mark
- Kraken Penetrator rounds are now in the starting perk; Secure Stockpile’s cooldown went from 60 to 90 s; most primaries got +5–15% base damage to compensate
Class Leveling to 25 + Perks
One class — Tactical, or every class — taken to level 25 with all class perks, the level Crucible Mode requires from 1 October 2026.
What Changed for Tactical in Patch 15.0
Saber’s notes call it a rework “offering more flexible customisation options” — two primary weapons, Gun Strike builds or close combat. In practice that is three things. A melee path: the Power Sword, Power Axe and One-Handed Thunder Hammer are Tactical weapons now, and equipping one removes the primary. A ranged path built on Tactical Reserve, which replaces the secondary with a Primary Bolt Rifle. And a rebuilt Auspex column: the big stacking multipliers are gone, replaced by perks that change how the scan behaves (a pulse, a scan around you, a Gun Strike mark on the biggest threat) and two Mandates that pick a damage type. The notes are explicit about the trade: the scan’s damage bonus is smaller than before, and base damage on almost every primary went up to even it out.
Every Tactical Perk Slot That Changed

The table lists each slot by its unlock level. The community wiki still showed the pre-15.0 tree on 4 October 2026, so the levels are those of the old perks the notes say each new one replaces; the effects are quoted from the Patch 15.0 notes.
| Level | Before Patch 15.0 | After Patch 15.0 | What it does now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | Class perk | Class perk + Kraken Penetrator | Bolt weapons pierce 1 more enemy; +20% non-headshot damage with bolters |
| 5 | Secure Stockpile, 60 s | Secure Stockpile, 90 s | Squad equipment charge +1, now every 90 s |
| 6 | Vital Data | Improved Efficiency | Auspex Scan recharges 25% faster |
| 8 | Close Targeting | Vital Data | Scanning an Extremis or Terminus enemy restores 50% of the scan’s charge |
| 9 | Signal Jammer | Tactical Reserve | Secondary weapon replaced with a Primary Bolt Rifle |
| 12 | Steady Aim | Focused Strike | During a Gun Strike: no loss of control on heavy hits, no knockback, 30% less damage |
| 14 | Priority Targeting | Pulse Auspex | A single pulse instead of a scan zone; 2 charges; radius −25% |
| 15 | Improved Efficiency | Marksman’s Mandate | Marked enemies take 40% more ranged damage |
| 16 | Expert Timing | Strongpoint | Inside the scan area the squad deals 20% more melee damage and takes 20% less health damage |
| 18 | Kraken Penetrator Rounds | Armour Reinforcement | Non-finisher Gun Strikes restore 1 armour segment |
| 22 | Target Lock | Mobile Auspex | The scan activates around you; radius +30%; lasts 4 s longer (base 5 s) |
| 23 | Precise Calibration | Bladesman’s Mandate | Marked enemies take 60% more melee and 20% more Gun Strike damage |
| 24 | Concentrated Fire | Prime Target | Activating the scan puts a Gun Strike mark on the most dangerous enemy in range |
| 25 | Marked for Death (headshot kills a marked Majoris/Extremis) | Marked for Death, reworked | Weakens one Majoris or Extremis in range; every scan damage bonus against it +100% |
| Prestige | Exigency Charge | Passive Chambering | An unequipped ranged weapon reloads itself after 10 s |
How Tactical Plays After Patch 15.0
Ranged. Two primaries with Tactical Reserve, Passive Chambering at Prestige so the holstered one reloads itself, Marksman’s Mandate for +40% on marked targets and Vital Data (now at level 8) to keep the scan up against elites. The bolt weapons it uses all got buffed: Bolt Rifle +10%, Auto Bolt Rifle +15%, Heavy Bolt Rifle +5%, and Kraken penetration is now free.
Melee. A Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer in place of the primary, Focused Strike and Armour Reinforcement to survive Gun Strikes, Strongpoint for the squad inside the scan and Bladesman’s Mandate for +60% melee on marked enemies. Built as here — a melee weapon and the Heavy Bolt Pistol — it has no ranged weapon beyond the pistol, so it needs a squad that handles shooters. Tactical Reserve puts a Primary Bolt Rifle in the secondary slot; the notes do not say whether that perk combines with a melee weapon in place of the primary, so check it in your client before building around it.
Both builds, perk by perk, and where Tactical ranks against the other six classes are in the Space Marine 2 class tier list, checked on Patch 15.0. Weapon damage changes outside Tactical (Melta +60–65% with shorter range, Plasma Incinerator +10% on the common shot, Heavy Bolter +5%) are summarised there too.
Getting Started With the Reworked Tactical

The notes do not mention a level or Prestige reset, so an existing Tactical keeps its level and simply has new perks in the changed slots: open the tree and re-pick, because a slot that held Steady Aim or Expert Timing now holds something with a different job. Prestige ranks you already own unlock Passive Chambering where Exigency Charge was. Crucible Mode, the endgame mode from the same patch, opens for any class at level 25; the fastest route to max level on every class covers getting there.
Anyone who would rather not spend the evenings on it can hand Space Marine 2 boosting to our crew instead — same account, same progress, played by hand.

What Else Shipped With the Tactical Rework
Chaos Siege Mode with the Hive map and Crucible Mode shipped in the same patch, along with the One-Handed Thunder Hammer as a new weapon and a Two-Handed Thunder Hammer for the Techmarine. The rest of Year 3 is in our Space Marine 2 Year 3 roadmap.
Our Take: Ranged or Melee Tactical?
Our Take
Ranged first: Tactical Reserve and Marksman’s Mandate keep the class doing what a random squad expects of it.
The melee path is real — Bladesman’s Mandate and Strongpoint make the scan a melee tool — but it removes the primary, and a squad that is missing ranged damage notices. The bigger shift is the scan itself: with the +75% and +120% stackers gone, Auspex is a utility you shape (pulse, mobile, Prime Target) rather than a multiplier you pile up. Re-pick the tree; do not assume an old build carries over.
