Space Marine 2’s Tactical class is getting a heavier melee option and a ranged Class Perk in Patch 15, which Focus Entertainment has dated for October 1, 2026 . Saber Interactive described the rework in the Actualización comunitaria de agosto on Steam; this is a preview of what is confirmed so far — what a Tactical build gives up, what it gets, and what stays blank until the full perk tree is published. The same update also confirms Chaos Siege and Crucible Mode for the patch.
En resumen · Preview · scheduled for October 1, 2026
- In Patch 15 Tactical will be able to equip a Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer — at the cost of the Primary Weapon slot
- A separate Class Perk will let Tactical carry a Primary Bolt Rifle in place of the Secondary Weapon
- The One-Handed Thunder Hammer also comes to Assault, Bulwark and Techmarine
- Patch 15 lands October 1, 2026 (Focus Entertainment, September 12)
- The full perk tree, its numbers, and whether the two options combine are not published yet — this is the announced direction, not final patch notes
What's Changing for Tactical in Patch 15?
Tactical is getting what Saber calls a major rework “to support more versatile playstyles,” with the class’s Perk Tree specifically called out as becoming “more diverse” and allowing “more creativity in the build”. This was announced in the August Community Update, posted to Steam on August 28, 2026, and it follows an earlier tease in the Patch 14.0 notes that a “big promise rework is coming for Tactical class with the next update”. The headline change is a heavier melee path: Tactical will be able to equip a Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer, but only “at the expense of his Primary Weapon” — so a melee-focused Tactical trades the bolt rifle or plasma gun for a proper close-combat weapon. Tactical already carries a melee weapon today; the news is a wider melee arsenal, not close combat from scratch. Separately, a Class Perk will let you replace the Secondary Weapon with a Primary Bolt Rifle for a more distance-oriented setup. Whether that perk and the melee option can be combined is not stated — that becomes clear once the full perk tree is published. That is the whole confirmed shape of the rework as of this writing: two slot trades, each giving up one weapon slot to gain another.
The Specifics: Melee Weapons, the Bolt Rifle Perk and the Thunder Hammer

The table below lays out the two build paths as Saber described them, plus the new weapon that ships alongside the rework. None of this is balanced in isolation — a melee-focused Tactical without a Primary Weapon plays very differently from the ranged support role most players know, and the current weapon meta covered in the Space Marine 2 weapon tier list after Patch 14 is built entirely around the Patch 14 loadout rules, not this one.
Note
The August Community Update does not touch Auspex Scan, and the full perk tree with its numbers has not been published. Everything on this page is the confirmed direction of the rework, not final values.
| Build path | What you give up | What you gain | Classes affected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melee build | Primary Weapon | Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer | Tactical |
| Ranged build (Class Perk) | Secondary Weapon | Primary Bolt Rifle | Tactical |
| New weapon type | — | One-Handed Thunder Hammer, described as a fast weapon that transitions between single-target and area attacks | Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, Techmarine |
How Tactical Plays Right Now, and What the Rework Actually Changes
As of the current Patch 14 / hotfix 14.2 build, Tactical is still built around its Primary Weapon and Auspex Scan utility rather than heavy melee weapons — the rework hasn’t shipped yet, so nothing about the class’s current perks or loadout options has changed. For a breakdown of how Tactical stacks up against the other classes under that current system, the Space Marine 2 class tier list for 2026 covers the pre-Patch 15 picture. The delta Patch 15 introduces is specifically the option to trade a weapon slot for a melee or ranged alternative — it’s not a full weapon-loadout expansion, since you’re still swapping one slot for another rather than adding a slot. Hotfix 14.1, released August 11, 2026, also patched a bug where Tactical’s “Kraken Penetrator Rounds” perk incorrectly granted penetration on projectile weapons, which shows the current perk system was still being tuned right up to the point the rework was announced.
How to Prepare Before October 1

The announcement says nothing about a reset: the August Community Update describes changed perk effects and a more diverse tree, not lost levels or Prestige, so there is no reason to rush anything on that account. The one dated requirement in the same patch is Crucible Mode, the new Penance-based challenge mode, which needs a class at level 25 to enter. If you want it on day one, have the class you actually play — for most readers of this page, Tactical — at 25 before October 1; there is no need to level every class for it. No official per-level time estimate exists for reaching 25, so treat any hour count you see elsewhere as an outside estimate. The fastest route to max level on every class covers the current leveling paths in more detail.
Anyone who would rather not spend the evenings on it can hand Boosting de Space Marine 2 to our crew instead — same account, same progress, played by hand.
What Else Ships With Patch 15
Tactical isn’t the only thing changing on October 1. Chaos Siege Mode arrives in the same patch: players fight on the Chaos Space Marine side on a new Siege map on Avarax against Tyranid and Loyalist waves, with Chaos Cultists and Ritualists in support and a deployable Helbrute — those are the confirmed features so far. The Siege framework it builds on — Requisition, wave scaling and boss encounters — is covered in the Space Marine 2 Siege Mode guide. Crucible Mode, the Penance system with the level-25 entry requirement described above, ships alongside it. Cape Recolour, teased in earlier updates as “something we should have done a long time ago,” is confirmed as work-in-progress with the final version subject to change before launch.
Our Take: Is the Tactical Rework Worth Getting Ready For?
Nuestra opinión
The rework is straightforward on paper; the real question is whether the new melee perks compensate for giving up the Primary Weapon, and how they interact with Auspex Scan.
Giving up the Primary Weapon for a Power Sword, Power Axe or One-Handed Thunder Hammer is a structural choice, not a cosmetic one — and the Bolt Rifle perk pulls in the other direction, so the interesting Tactical builds will be decided by which perks sit next to which slot. None of that can be judged until Saber publishes the perk tree with numbers, which it has not done. Until then the honest reading is: two confirmed slot trades, a wider melee arsenal, and an open question about how the class’s scan-and-mark role survives a melee-focused build.
