On 2 September the Far Far West team said something studios usually phrase more carefully: the Frostburn update’s blueprint conversion “caused many people to lose a bunch of their hard earned blueprints.” The apology came with a promo code for fifteen of them. The interesting part is not the code — it is the six days between the code and the admission.

TL;DR

  • The studio confirmed on 2 September that converting blueprints in Frostburn destroyed earned blueprints
  • Compensation is a promo code: THESADLYLOSTBLUEPRINTS, worth 15 blueprints
  • The code actually shipped earlier, in hotfix 0.2.0.4 on 27 August — the same hotfix that fixed promo codes, which had been broken
  • If you tried a code before 27 August and it failed, that was the bug, not you
  • No expiry date has been published, and the studio has not said who lost how much or whether anything else is being restored

What the Studio Actually Said

The statement is short enough to quote whole. From the official account, 2 September:

“there was an issue with the Frostburn update where converting blueprints caused many people to lose a bunch of their hard earned blueprints. we’re big sorry about this!! heres a promo code for 15 blueprints to say sorry — THESADLYLOSTBLUEPRINTS”

That is an admission of a data loss, not a balance note. It names the cause (the conversion step introduced with Frostburn), the effect (blueprints players had earned, gone), and the remedy (fifteen blueprints, for anyone who redeems the code — not scaled to what you lost).

Not everyone has the evenings for this — Far Far West boosting covers the same ground with someone else on the keys.

The Timeline Is Backwards, and That Matters

The code is older than the apology.

27 August — Frostburn ships as v0.2.0.2. Later the same day, hotfix 0.2.0.4 goes out with three lines: a new promo code THESADLYLOSTBLUEPRINTS, “Fixed promo codes, they work again!”, and a fix making Marauders freeze correctly.

2 September — the studio explains, on X, what that code was for.

For six days the compensation existed without a public reason attached to it, in a patch note that reads like a routine hotfix. Anyone who skimmed 0.2.0.4 and did not redeem a code they had no reason to care about simply did not get their fifteen blueprints.

Worth knowing

The same hotfix line says promo codes had stopped working and were fixed in 0.2.0.4. If you tried redeeming anything in Far Far West before 27 August and it refused, that was the client, not your code.

What Has Not Been Answered

Three things are missing from both the post and the patch note, and no amount of community speculation replaces them:

  • How long the code lives. No expiry is stated anywhere. It may be permanent, it may be pulled next patch. Redeem it now rather than finding out.
  • Who lost what. “Many people” is the studio’s own precision. There is no list of affected accounts, no threshold, and no way offered to check whether you were one of them.
  • Whether fifteen is the whole remedy. The code is flat compensation, not restoration. Nothing has been said about restoring individual losses, and a player who lost far more than fifteen has been given the same fifteen as a player who lost none.

Common Misconceptions

Myth: the code is new

It shipped on 27 August. Only the explanation is new.

Myth: it restores what you lost

It grants fifteen blueprints to whoever redeems it. It is not tied to your account’s losses and the studio has not described it as a restoration.

Myth: everyone was hit

The wording is “many people”, not “all players”. The studio has not published a way to tell whether your account was affected.

Our Take: Redeem It Today, Judge the Handling Separately

Our Take

The fix is worth thirty seconds of your time; the six-day gap is the part worth remembering.

Owning a data-loss bug in plain language is more than a lot of studios manage, and a small team shipping a code within hours of the update is a fast response by any standard. What went wrong is the sequencing: the remedy was published as an unexplained line in a hotfix, and the explanation arrived six days later, by which point the people most annoyed had already formed an opinion.

Redeem the code while it works. Treat the absence of an expiry date as a reason to hurry, not as a promise.

Sources and Confidence

Both sources are the studio’s own. Where something is not stated, this article says so rather than estimating it.
