Prestige is the part of Far Far West that people buy without quite knowing what it hands them. The number on the profile is not the point. The point is slots — the spaces your build actually lives in — and Prestige is the only thing that raises the ceiling on them.

Everything below comes from Update 1, the patch that rebuilt this system in May 2026 and halved the grind behind it. Frostburn, the August update, does not touch Prestige at all, so these are still the numbers you are playing with.

TL;DR

  • Hero and each weapon Prestige separately, up to level 15 (raised from 10 in Update 1).
  • Prestige unlocks up to 6 bonus upgrade slots, up from 5.
  • Prestige also unlocks 2 extra Joker slots, taking the maximum from 14 to 16.
  • Upgrade slots unlock every 2 levels rather than every level.
  • Joker slots are spread across levels 1-100 instead of 1-50.
  • Update 1 halved the Prestige grind and doubled hero XP; weapon XP went up x1.5 to x2.
  • Since Frostburn, leftover Uranium at the end of a mission converts into hero and weapon XP.

Three Systems People Keep Merging

Almost every argument about Prestige is really a confusion between three separate things. Separating them makes the rest of the article trivial.

1. Your current level, 1 to 100. This is what you lose and regain each Prestige cycle. It is the counter that decides how much of your slot capacity is open right now.

2. Base slots earned by levelling. Joker slots unlock across levels 1-100; upgrade slots unlock every 2 levels. Both come from the current level, not from Prestige, and both come back as you climb again.

3. Bonus slots earned by Prestige. Up to 6 extra upgrade slots and 2 extra Joker slots — taking the Joker maximum from 14 to 16. These are permanent. They are the reason to run the cycles at all.

So a weapon at Prestige 2 sitting at level 100 has nearly all of its card space open; the same weapon at Prestige 8 but freshly reset has almost none. Prestige raises the ceiling, level decides how much of it you are currently standing under.

Why Update 1 Halved the Grind

The developer was unusually blunt about this. In the Update 1 notes the team wrote that while creating the Prestige system they “overshot the amount of grind needed to complete a Prestige”, called it unfair, and cut it by half.

The XP side moved with it: hero XP was doubled, main weapon XP raised x1.5, all secondary weapons x2, and the bow x1.3 on top of an earlier increase. That is why the slot schedule looks slower on paper — upgrade slots moved from every level to every 2, and Joker slots stretched from levels 1-50 to 1-100 — while the actual rate you unlock them at did not change. Players mid-way through were given free levels so nobody lost a Joker slot in the swap.

If you have read an older guide claiming Prestige caps at 10 with 5 bonus slots, that guide predates 14 May 2026. Both numbers moved.

Uranium Now Feeds the Same Bars

Frostburn added a second, quieter route into the same progress. Uranium exists only inside a mission and pays for buying, copying and refining Jokers — but whatever you have left when the mission ends is converted into XP for your hero and your weapons.

That changes how a Prestige run should be played. Hoarding Uranium is no longer wasteful and spending it is no longer free: every unit you keep is XP, and every unit you spend is a Joker you decided was worth more than the XP. It is the first time the two systems have talked to each other, and it makes quests, secrets and lighthouses count toward levelling even when you do not need what they pay.

What This Means If You Are Buying Levels

Three practical things follow from all of the above.

Weapon Prestige is not optional if you build seriously. Every weapon runs its own track to 15 and carries its own bonus slots, so a hero deep into the cycles and an armoury that has never prestiged is a build with a low ceiling on everything except the hero.

The cycles matter more than the level. Six bonus upgrade slots and two bonus Joker slots only arrive through repeated Prestige, not by sitting at max level.

Difficulty decides the pace. More Uranium in a mission is more XP at the end of it, and Uranium sources — elites, secondary objectives, quests, secrets, lighthouses, balloons — scale with what you are willing to run.

The full job is fifteen cycles on the hero and fifteen on every weapon you intend to use, which is why nobody finishes it by accident. If you would rather not, our Far Far West leveling and prestige services run them by hand on your own account, mission by mission, with everything found left where it lands.

Sources and Confidence

Confirmed by the official patch notes: Prestige to 15 for hero and weapons, up to 6 bonus upgrade slots, upgrade slots every 2 levels, Joker slots across levels 1-100, the halved Prestige grind and the XP multipliers all come from FFW Early Access — Update 1 — V644 (14 May 2026). The Uranium-to-XP conversion comes from Frostburn v0.2.0.2.

From the community wiki: the figure of 2 bonus Joker slots, taking the maximum from 14 to 16, comes from the Far Far West Wiki entry on Jokers. The patch notes state the upgrade-slot number but not this one, so treat it as community-documented rather than official.

Valid for version 0.2.0.x. Frostburn does not mention Prestige anywhere in its notes, so nothing has changed since Update 1 — but the game is in Early Access and the developer has said long-term progression systems are still coming before 1.0. Treat these numbers as current rather than final.

Not known: how much Uranium each Joker rarity returns when broken, and the exact XP value of leftover Uranium. Neither has been published.

FAQ

What is the maximum Prestige in Far Far West?
Fifteen, for your hero and for each individual weapon. It was raised from 10 in Update 1 on 14 May 2026, in the same patch that halved the grind required to complete a Prestige.
How many bonus slots does Prestige give?
Up to six extra upgrade slots and two extra Joker slots, which takes the Joker maximum from 14 to 16. The upgrade-slot figure is in the Update 1 patch notes; the Joker-slot figure is documented by the community wiki.
Do I lose my Joker slots when I Prestige?
The slots tied to your current level come back as you level up again — they unlock across levels 1-100. The bonus slots earned through Prestige are permanent and are not lost.
How often do upgrade slots unlock?
Every two levels. Update 1 changed this from every level, but it also doubled hero XP and raised weapon XP, so the rate at which you actually unlock them did not change.
Do weapons Prestige separately from the hero?
Yes. Every weapon runs its own track to Prestige 15 and carries its own slots, so finishing the hero is roughly the start rather than the end of the job.
Does Uranium help with levelling?
Since Frostburn, yes. Uranium only exists inside a mission, but whatever is left when the mission ends is converted into XP for your hero and your weapons.
