McMillan Reservoir Assault went live on July 21, 2026, about five weeks into Year 8 Season 2: Into the Dark, and it’s the second of only two Classified Assignments the season added. If you already cleared the season’s first one, Conspiracy Zone Hideout, this is the follow-up that explains where the Hyenas were sourcing their contaminated sample cannisters. This walkthrough covers how to unlock the mission, what its puzzles actually want from you, and exactly what drops when you finish it.
TL;DR
- McMillan Reservoir Assault is Year 8’s fourth Classified Assignment and the second added with Into the Dark, released July 21, 2026
- The entrance sits on the north end of Judiciary Square, right next to the Hotel Infirmary control point
- You need to own it through the Into the Dark season pass bundle, or buy it separately, before the entrance even shows up
- A first clear rewards the ‘Old Glory’ High-End SMG and the ‘Big Foot’ backpack trophy, plus six audio logs and one Echo
- It runs parallel to, not through, the free weekly Manhunt track

The Short Answer
McMillan Reservoir Assault is a short, self-contained story mission, not a repeatable stronghold. During this season, agents come to the aid of a Division Agent who is injured in a turf war between the True Sons and Hyenas over a dam and hydroelectric power plant. It’s also Year 8’s fourth Classified Assignment, continuing the over-arching plot-line of the mystery over the SHD Network anomalies and the elusive figure behind them.
Structurally it plays like the game’s other Classified Assignments: a hidden entrance you have to physically find, a string of light environmental puzzles, and a handful of lore collectibles tucked into side rooms. It’s not difficulty-gated in the way a Legendary Stronghold is. The challenge here is almost entirely about knowing where to look, not about your gear score.
Not everyone has the evenings for this — The Division 2 boosting covers the same ground with someone else on the keys.
Unlocking McMillan Reservoir Assault
You Need to Own It First
You must first purchase the assignment. It’s included if you already own the season pass bundle for Into the Dark, and you can also purchase it separately through the store. That’s an easy step to miss if you’re just following a map marker from memory — the marker doesn’t appear at all until the purchase goes through.
The Entrance Is North of Judiciary Square
Guides floating around describe the location loosely as “Judiciary Square,” which sends people wandering the wrong side of the district. The actual entrance sits on the north end of Judiciary Square, just to the right of the Hotel Infirmary control point. Like other Classified Assignments, it shows up on the map as a blue compass symbol, and the door itself has a glitched AR overlay that you need to scan up close before the mission unlocks.
Bring a Sustain Skill, Not Just DPS
The mission alternates between tight indoor corridors and one open, semi-vertical reservoir area. A healing or shield skill covers you better here than a pure damage loadout, since you’ll be pulled off cover to interact with levers and pumps mid-fight more than once.

The Walkthrough, Room by Room
Through the Flooded Filter Plant
Once the mission starts, follow the path on the right side until you find a door with a padlock. Shoot the lock, go through, take the stairs, drop down, and take the ladder. On the right side of the platform, drop down and head to the lever, then use it to unlock the door into the reservoir itself.
The water in the reservoir is electrified, and there are two generators you need to find and disable to get rid of the electricity before you can move through safely. This is the part guides consistently flag as the first real snag: the flooded control room further in is a straightforward valve puzzle, where turning valves lowers the water level and exposes more valves, and working through them in the right sequence eventually opens a path into a service tunnel. Turn them out of order and the room just relocks instead of progressing, which feels less like a puzzle and more like busywork the first time you hit it.
Grab the mission’s Echo before you trigger the next story beat. Like most story content in the game, once a phase closes here you can’t casually walk back for a collectible you skipped.
The Silo, the Echo, and the Final Comm
In the service tunnel, peek through the fence on the right and shoot the lock to continue, then turn the final valve on the other side to trigger the next objective: retrieving explosives from the top platform of the room. That platform is also where the mission’s Echo is found. From there the path leads back up and outward toward the plant’s silos. At the earliest area of the mission there’s a silo, marked Silo 28, holding a backpack trophy and the sixth comm. It’s easy to run straight past it on the way in, since nothing about the opening area flags it as important yet — you only realize it’s the payoff room once you loop back at the end.
Rewards and Collectibles
The full haul from a first clear is small but genuinely worth having, and unlike a stronghold drop table, none of it is random.
As with the game’s other Classified Assignments, the named weapon and trophy are one-time, account-wide unlocks. Running the mission again after that doesn’t reroll them — it just hands you standard loot and XP, which makes replaying it mostly a lore-hunting exercise rather than a farm.
| Reward | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ‘Old Glory’ | High-End SMG | Guaranteed first-clear reward |
| ‘Big Foot’ | Backpack trophy | Found in Silo 28 |
| Audio logs | Lore collectible | Six total across the mission |
| Echo | Lore collectible | Found on the explosives platform |
| True Sons faction box | Loot cache | Sits beside the final comm near Silo 28 |
Is It Worth Doing Right Now?
If You Already Cleared Conspiracy Zone Hideout
Do this one next. The story threads connect directly, and having both Classified Assignments done means you’re not missing pieces when the season’s Climax mission wraps things up.
If You’re New to Classified Assignments This Season
Start here anyway if you’d rather skip the earlier hideout mission for now — McMillan Reservoir Assault doesn’t require it to make sense, since the objective and reward are both self-contained.
The bigger question most players actually have is whether to spend time here instead of grinding the season’s weekly Manhunt. The Manhunt is a free nine-week seasonal questline built around Hyenas growing a new drug, mixing Scout tasks with High-Value Target weeks that build toward a final climax mission. It’s the track that actually gates your seasonal progress and cosmetics. McMillan Reservoir Assault doesn’t touch that progress bar at all — it’s a side purchase that pays out immediately in gear and lore, not a weekly obligation.
- Skipping the generators before the electrified water is dealt with just gets you killed for no reason
- Walking past Silo 28 on the first pass and forgetting to loop back for it
- Assuming the mission is free content and never buying it, so the entrance marker never appears
The Manhunt has the weekly structure and the seasonal rewards, McMillan Reservoir Assault has the one-time named weapon you can claim today.

The Bottom Line
If you’re chasing seasonal cosmetics and progress, put your hours into the free Manhunt track first and treat McMillan Reservoir Assault as a side errand. If you just want a guaranteed named SMG without waiting on RNG drops, it’s a clean, one-and-done pickup that takes an evening at most. It’s a solid, if minor, addition — not essential, but worth the price if you’re already invested in Into the Dark’s story.
