McMillan Reservoir Assault went live on July 21, 2026, about five weeks into Year 8 Season 2: Into the Dark, and it’s the second of only two Classified Assignments the season added. If you already cleared the season’s first one, Conspiracy Zone Hideout, this is the season’s second story assignment. This overview covers how to unlock the mission, the order of its main areas and what it rewards. It does not give the exact valve order or a route to all six comms: we could not verify either.
Status on 11 October 2026: Into the Dark is over; the live season is Year 8 Season 3, Red Horizon, since 27 August. It has two Classified Assignments of its own: The District Mall Inferno, out since 27 August, and The Georgetown Dead Zone, due on 15 October (Ubisoft). McMillan Reservoir Assault is now a past-season assignment, launched the same way as the new ones (below).

La respuesta breve
McMillan Reservoir Assault is a short, self-contained story mission, not a repeatable stronghold. You come to the aid of a Division Agent injured in a turf war between the True Sons and Hyenas. Ubisoft’s season post frames it as an urgent call for backup: the injured agent is trapped while investigating an SHD network anomaly at the reservoir.
Structurally it plays like the game’s other Classified Assignments: a self-contained map you launch from the Assignments tab, a string of light environmental puzzles, and a handful of lore collectibles tucked into side rooms. It’s not difficulty-gated in the way a Legendary Stronghold is. The challenge here is almost entirely about knowing where to look, not about your gear score.
Not everyone has the evenings for this — Boosting de The Division 2 covers the same ground with someone else on the keys.
Unlocking McMillan Reservoir Assault
You Need to Own It First
Ubisoft says Classified Assignments are reached through the dedicated Assignments tab on the map: access unlocks at Level 30, and assignments are purchased and launched from there (Into the Dark season post). At launch Ubisoft said McMillan Reservoir Assault was included in the Into The Dark Bundle and the Into The Dark Supply Drop, or available for 500 Premium Credits as a separate purchase (TU Y8S2.2, 21 July 2026). Ubisoft hasn’t restated its price since Red Horizon began (checked 11 October 2026). The same post started a weekly free rotation of older Classified Assignments; McMillan Reservoir Assault was not in the list published through 1 September.
The Entrance Is North of Judiciary Square
If you would rather walk in than launch from the tab, community guides place the entrance on the north end of Judiciary Square, just to the right of the Hotel Infirmary control point. Like other Classified Assignments, it shows up on the map as a blue compass symbol, and the door itself has a glitched AR overlay that you need to scan up close before the mission unlocks.
Bring a Sustain Skill, Not Just DPS
The mission alternates between tight indoor corridors and one open, semi-vertical reservoir area. A healing or shield skill covers you better here than a pure damage loadout, since you’ll be pulled off cover to interact with levers and pumps mid-fight more than once.

The Mission Route, Area by Area
Through the Flooded Filter Plant
Once the mission starts, follow the path on the right side until you find a door with a padlock. Shoot the lock, go through, take the stairs, drop down, and take the ladder. On the right side of the platform, drop down and head to the lever, then use it to unlock the door into the reservoir itself.
The water in the reservoir is electrified, and there are two generators you need to find and disable to get rid of the electricity before you can move through safely. This is the part guides consistently flag as the first real snag: the flooded control room further in is a straightforward valve puzzle, where turning valves lowers the water level and exposes more valves, and working through them in the right order eventually opens a path into a service tunnel. We have not verified the exact order, so we don’t print one; community guides say turning them out of order relocks the room.
Grab the mission’s Echo before you trigger the next story beat. Like most story content in the game, once a phase closes here you can’t casually walk back for a collectible you skipped.
The Silo, the Echo, and the Final Comm
In the service tunnel, peek through the fence on the right and shoot the lock to continue, then turn the final valve on the other side to trigger the next objective: retrieving explosives from the top platform of the room. That platform is also where the mission’s Echo is found. From there the path leads back up and outward toward the plant’s silos. At the earliest area of the mission there’s a silo, marked Silo 28, holding a backpack trophy and the sixth comm. It’s easy to run straight past it on the way in, since nothing about the opening area flags it as important yet — you only realize it’s the payoff room once you loop back at the end.
Not covered here: the exact valve order and a route to all six comms. Community guides count six comms; this overview only places the sixth, in Silo 28.
Rewards and Collectibles
Ubisoft says Classified Assignments reward collectibles such as echoes and audio logs, plus themed backpack trophies and named item drops. The specific items below come from community guides (checked 11 October 2026): the haul from a first clear is small, and players report none of it is random.
Players report that, as with other Classified Assignments, the named weapon and trophy are one-time, account-wide unlocks. Running the mission again after that doesn’t reroll them — it just hands you standard loot and XP, which makes replaying it mostly a lore-hunting exercise rather than a farm.
| Reward | Tipo | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ‘Old Glory’ | Named SMG | First-clear reward |
| ‘Big Foot’ | Backpack trophy | Found in Silo 28 |
| Audio logs | Lore collectible | Six total across the mission |
| Echo | Lore collectible | Found on the explosives platform |
| True Sons faction box | Loot cache | Sits beside the final comm near Silo 28 |

Is It Worth Doing in Red Horizon?
If You Already Cleared Conspiracy Zone Hideout
Do this one next. Both are Into the Dark story missions built around SHD network anomalies, so playing them in order keeps the story in sequence.
If You’re New to Classified Assignments This Season
Start here anyway if you’d rather skip the earlier hideout mission for now — McMillan Reservoir Assault doesn’t require it to make sense, since the objective and reward are both self-contained.
In Red Horizon the real question is order. The season’s own assignments are The District Mall Inferno, out since 27 August, and The Georgetown Dead Zone, due on 15 October; the Red Horizon Bundle ($29.99) includes both, with the Premium Season Pass. McMillan Reservoir Assault belongs to the previous season’s story, so treat it as a catch-up purchase that pays out in a named SMG and lore, not as part of this season’s progress.
- Skipping the generators before the electrified water is dealt with just gets you killed for no reason
- Walking past Silo 28 on the first pass and forgetting to loop back for it
- Assuming the mission is free and never buying it in the Assignments tab
Red Horizon’s assignments carry the current story; McMillan Reservoir Assault is the one-time named SMG you can still claim from the last one.

Conclusión
If you’re chasing this season’s progress, Red Horizon’s Season Pass and its two assignments come first; treat McMillan Reservoir Assault as a side errand. If you want a named SMG without waiting on RNG drops, it’s a clean, one-and-done pickup. It’s a solid, if minor, addition — not essential, but worth the price if you’re already invested in Into the Dark’s story.
