In MW4 DMZ, killing another player puts a Bounty on your Operator, four player kills across deployments make you Wanted, and Hunters collect by killing you and extracting with your Dog Tag. Activision’s DMZ FOB guide for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 covers both sides: earning a Bounty, losing it, hunting it, payouts and the leaderboard.

TL;DR

  • One player kill puts a Bounty on your Dog Tag; four player kills across deployments make you Wanted.
  • You lose a Bounty if you die and fail to exfil, if another player extracts with your Dog Tag, or if you pay it off at a Bounty Station in Hajin.
  • Hunters see the Wanted list for free at a Bounty Station; DMZ Cash intel adds a Tac Map circle.
  • Claimed Bounty payouts rise through Dog Tag Case upgrades: +10% at DMZ Level 30, +50% at 50, +100% at 70.
  • Exact DMZ Cash values and the kill counts for higher Wanted states are not stated in the FOB guide.

What Is the Bounty System in MW4 DMZ?

The Bounty system is DMZ’s optional PvP layer: players who kill other Operators earn a Bounty in DMZ Cash, and other players can cash it in by hunting them down. Activision’s own guide uses the terms “Killer” for the player who earns a Bounty and “Hunter” for the player chasing it down. It is a long-term system that tracks you across multiple deployments, not a per-match counter. It sits next to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), your Bank and the Dog Tag, which shows your Bounty status and Operator kill count. For the FOB, stations and the Hajin map around it, see our MW4 DMZ explained guide.

How to Become Wanted and Most Wanted

There is no menu to opt in. When an Operator kills another player, they immediately earn a Bounty, listed on their own Dog Tag in the Loadout. The Bounty level keeps rising as you slay more human Operators, and the tally is tracked on the Dog Tag. Four players slain makes you Wanted. Activision says the system tracks factors beyond raw kills, including who fired first and whether you were outnumbered. How those factors are weighted is not described.

Once you are Wanted, nearby Operators are automatically alerted when you come within proximity. There are multiple Wanted states, and the biggest Bounties are called Most Wanted. Most Wanted players are displayed on the Bounty Leaderboard station in the FOB.

Warning

Wanted is a combat-risk escalation, not a cosmetic badge: nearby Operators are alerted, and at the highest Wanted level your general vicinity is likely visible to all Operatives in Hajin.

How to Lose a Bounty in MW4 DMZ

Activision lists three ways to clear a Bounty. Its summary line says a Bounty and Wanted status are lost when the Operator dies, but the detailed rules tie that to the cases below; whether being revived with your Dog Tag still on you keeps the Bounty is not stated.

Exfil without your Dog Tag

If another player slays you, takes your Dog Tag and extracts with it, you lose the Bounty when you exfil without the tag. The guide says this applies whether you are subsequently revived or not.

Die and fail to exfil

Being killed during a deployment and failing to exfil also ends the Bounty. That is also what makes the system self-limiting: the longer you survive while Wanted, the more the Bounty is worth to anyone who catches you.

Pay it off at a Bounty Station

You can spend your own DMZ Cash to pay your Bounty off at a Bounty Station in Hajin. The price is not stated.

Step-by-Step: Hunting a Bounty in DMZ

The steps follow Activision’s FOB guide; DMZ Cash amounts for intel are not published.

  1. 1

    Find a Bounty Station

During a deployment, open your Tac Map and locate a Bounty Station within Hajin.

  2. 2

    Read the free Wanted list

The list of Wanted Operators in your current deployment is available at the station whether or not you pay for intel.

  3. 3

    Decide on intel

Buying Bounty Intel costs DMZ Cash from your FOB Bank, and the higher the Killer's Wanted level, the more it costs.

  4. 4

    Follow the Tac Map circle

Intel shows a circle around the Wanted player's general area, which shrinks and updates faster the more Wanted they are.

  5. 5

    Kill the target

To collect, you must kill the Operator.

  6. 6

    Extract with their Dog Tag

Your cut of the Bounty in DMZ Cash is added to your Bank after exfil.

Bounty Payouts and Dog Tag Case Upgrades

The reward for claiming a Bounty is relative to the target’s Bounty Level, with an additional increase if the Bounty is at maximum Wanted level. Not every slain player carries a Bounty, so a kill does not always pay out. The Dog Tag Case station unlocks at DMZ Level 20 and increases the DMZ Cash you receive from Bounties as your DMZ level climbs. Activision’s 19 October progression post lists the claimed-Bounty payout upgrades below.

Claimed Bounty payout increase by DMZ level

DMZ Level 30+10%
DMZ Level 50+50%
DMZ Level 70+100%

Read the upgrade rows in the official progression post. The official row for DMZ Level 40 lists no percentage; see the open points below.

Bounty Leaderboard: Top 50 Most Wanted and Hunters

The Bounty Leaderboard is a physical station in the FOB and is available immediately, with no DMZ level gate. It has two boards, viewable Globally or on your Friends list.

What Is Not Stated Yet

The FOB guide gives no exact DMZ Cash values for Bounties or intel, no kill counts for Wanted states above the first, and no answer on whether leaderboards reset by season. It also does not say whether the three payout upgrades stack. For DMZ Level 40 the official table gives no percentage. CODCentral, from its own look at the in-game rewards screen, reports +25% Bounty Payout there; Neonsect has not checked it.

Common Misconceptions About the Bounty System

Myth: you need to buy intel to see who is Wanted

The list of Wanted Operators in your deployment is free at a Bounty Station; paid intel is what adds the Tac Map circle.

Myth: killing the target is enough to get paid

The payout lands only when you get out carrying the target’s Dog Tag; the DMZ Cash then goes to your Bank. If you die before extracting, the guide describes no payout.

Myth: your Bounty resets every match

The system tracks players across multiple deployments. What clears it is dying without an exfil, another player extracting with your Dog Tag, or paying it off.

Our Take: Is the Bounty System Worth Engaging With?

Our Take

A sound risk-reward loop, but the numbers that decide it are still unpublished.

Wanted status puts a price on your head while the payout scales with how deadly you have been, which is a clear trade. Hunting costs only DMZ Cash and a Dog Tag extraction. Until the Bounty and intel amounts and the higher Wanted thresholds are published, weigh that trade by feel and check the Bounty Station in-game.
