Palworld‘s Oil Rig strongholds are heavily fortified Rayne Syndicate bases scattered across the water, and they hold some of the best repeatable loot in the endgame. Oil rigs are offshore Rayne Syndicate strongholds bristling with turrets, laser cannons, and armed defenders, and they hold some of the best loot in the game: high-level Equipment Schematics, Ancient Civilization Cores, and Crude Oil. This guide covers how to reach all three Oil Rig variants, the Pal lineups and gear that actually survive the defenses, the turret and enemy mechanics you need to handle, and the full reward table so you know what drops and whether it’s worth farming.
TL;DR
- Three Oil Rigs exist: Level 30 Barge (entry-level), Level 50-55 main rig, and Level 60 Platform (endgame farm)
- Anti-air lasers shred flying mounts—approach by sea on swimming Pals or fly high and unpredictably
- Large chest holds Ancient Civilization Cores, legendary schematics, and Crude Oil; respawns every 30 minutes to 1 hour
- Best loadout: legendary rocket launcher, Heat/Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor, fast mount (Jetragon or Jormuntide), Homeward Thundercloud escape
- Level 60 Platform Oil Rig near Feybreak is the premier legendary weapon schematic farm in 1.0
What Are Oil Rig Strongholds in Palworld
The Oil Rigs are heavily fortified strongholds found across the waters of the Palpagos Islands. Controlled by the Rayne Syndicate, Oil Rigs are high-risk combat locations featuring powerful enemies, automated defenses, and valuable loot. Each Oil Rig differs in difficulty and defensive systems, but all follow similar respawn and loot mechanics. Unlike Wildlife Sanctuaries or raid bosses you summon at an altar, Oil Rigs are permanent locations you can visit repeatedly for chest farming runs. The player level cap rose from 65 to 80, with the tech tree extended to match and high-difficulty content – raid bosses, Tower Boss Hard Mode, oil rigs – rebalanced around it. In the 1.0 endgame economy, rigs are also a prime schematic source, sitting alongside Ancient Ruins in the 1.0 schematic economy.
Where to Find All Three Oil Rig Variants
Three Oil Rig variants exist across the map at different difficulty tiers. The Barge Oil Rig is located in the lake north of the Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings waypoint, at coordinates (160, −280). It serves as the earliest Oil Rig encounter. This Level 30 rig is your entry point—enemies are manageable, and unlike later Oil Rigs, the Barge Oil Rig can be safely approached using a Flying Pal. The main Level 50-55 Oil Rig sits southeast of the Marsh Island waypoint at coordinates (540 to 580, -420 to -435), and represents a late-game combat challenge. This is the most-discussed rig, introduced in the Sakurajima update. Finally, the Platform Oil Rig is located west of the Feybreak Shipwreck waypoint, at coordinates (-1730, -1450), and represents the most difficult Oil Rig encounter. This Level 60 Platform rig added in the Feybreak update is the current endgame farm — that’s where the meta-defining Feybreak weapon schematics drop.

How to Unlock and Reach the Oil Rigs
Warning
Flying within 350 meters will trigger anti-air laser cannons that can stunlock your Pal and inflict a ton of damage. This can one-shot your flying friend if you’re not careful. Always have a backup swimming Pal ready.
Follow this sequence to get it done fast.

1
Hit the minimum level requirement
It's recommended to be at least level 50 before attempting to get to the Oil Rig because the enemies will be attacking using their turrets and firing lasers from the towers on it before you reach it. The Barge rig can be attempted around Level 30, but the main and Platform rigs demand Level 50 and 6

2
Prepare your mount team
You'll also need a Flying Mount Pal and/or one for Swimming to reach the base and its some high towers. Bring both: a fast flier like Jetragon is the fastest mount Pal in both air and land, plus a swimming mount like Azurobe or Jormuntide to approach by sea.

Fast-travel to the nearest waypoint
It can be reached from Marsh Island waypoint located at 430, -345 by a flying Pal, but there is a chance it may get downed, so you should also bring a swimming Pal in case that happens while getting to the Oil Rig located at 538, -421. For the Platform rig, use the Feybreak Shipwreck waypoint. For t

Approach low or from the sea
The Oil Rig is surrounded by anti-air laser turrets that target players approaching on Flying Pals. These lasers deal extremely high damage and can quickly incapacitate even high-level Pals. The anti-air lasers target flying mounts for huge damage, so fly high and unpredictably or approach by sea on
Best Pal Lineups and Gear for Oil Rig Clears
Recommended Player Gear
The recommended armor to equip when charging through the Oil Rig Stronghold is either the Legendary Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor or the Legendary Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor, both have the same stats and are the best armor so far in Palworld. Along with the armor, bringing a Legendary Rocket Launcher is the next best thing as it deals massive damage and takes care of enemies in groups with just a blast. For additional weapons, community players report success with a epic or legendary rocket launcher, assault rifle, shot gun and a “long range harass tool”. the launcher your main killer but has a slow reload. that where the rifle and shot gun come to play if you have spam in your face and cant reload safely. Always carry a Homeward Thundercloud or Dogen is strongly recommended. for emergency escapes.
Top Combat Pals for Oil Rig Runs
Player-damage builds dominate Oil Rig clears because you control positioning better than AI Pals in the tight corridors and turret crossfire. However, certain Pals offer critical utility. Unless you’re planning on taking a team of Gobfins with you to the Stronghold, your Pals should be past level 50. Make room for a Dogen, as their ability to teleport you to your closest base can come in clutch whether you’re done looting the base or need to make a dramatic escape. Prioritize Pals with high HP to soak damage, such as Legendary Alpha Pals. Community discussions mention Grizzbolt with rocket launcher multipliers, Relaxaurus Lux for AoE crowd control, and high levelled Pals with the likes of Grizzbolt, Relaxaurus Lux, and Jormuntide Ignis. which you can actually capture from the Syndicate defenders themselves. For mount flexibility, Jetragon (flying speed) and Jormuntide (swimming approach) are essential, with Dogen as your escape teleport.
Passives and Builds That Matter
Standard endgame combat passives apply: offensive buffs like Ferocious, Legend, and Musclehead for damage output; defensive picks like Burly Body for survivability. Since you’re looting chests rather than butchering Pals, Service-Minded and Lavish Hospitality passives won’t help here—focus purely on combat stats. Condensing your key Pals to raise their base stats significantly improves survival against the level 55-60 Syndicate Crushers and elite units guarding the large chest spawns.

Turret Mechanics and How to Survive Them
Disable gun and Gatling turrets by interacting with the console at their base, or destroy them on foot rather than from a mount, which takes heavy damage. Every turret type has a console you can manually interact with to shut it down without combat. The rig also contains gun turrets, which can be temporarily disabled by damaging them or interacting with the console at their base. The anti-air lasers are the most dangerous—approaching this chest by flying requires all anti-air laser turrets to be destroyed beforehand. if you need to loot the tower-top chest. In addition to the defenses found on the Oil Rig, the Platform Oil Rig features anti-air rocket platforms similar to those found in Feybreak island camps. making the Level 60 variant even deadlier from the air. Use cover liberally—many enemies on the Oil Rig use firearms, so make use of shipping containers, oil tanks, and other structures as cover. Fight from a distance whenever possible and let your Pals help deal with larger groups.
Tip
Remember that you don’t need to clear out the rig, the only thing that matters is finding the chest, opening does take a bit though so you can just rush in and ignore everything. Speed runs work if you know the large chest spawn locations.
Oil Rig Rewards and Loot Tables
The prize is the large yellow chest, which spawns in one of a few random locations per in-game day and holds Ancient Civilization Cores – five of which craft endgame gear like the Ultra Shield. Here, you can find rare weapon schematics, crude oil, large Lotus materials, and even Ancient Civilization Cores that you typically can only receive from raid bosses. The reward pool varies by Oil Rig tier and chest type. The Oil Rig contains two distinct types of chests, all of which spawn at fixed locations across the structure. A single large chest spawns on each reset in one of four predetermined locations. Twelve smaller chests spawn alongside the large chest at fixed positions throughout the Oil Rig. On the Platform rig, 22 small chests + 1 big chest (the big chest has 5 possible spawn locations, randomized per session).
Tier 4 schematics are deeply rare: Average runs per Tier-4 Feybreak schematic: ~80 runs. That drops to ~32 if you use the Drafting Table (added in v0.5.0) to merge 5× Tier 3 schematics. This makes the Platform Oil Rig a long-term endgame grind, but the Plasma Cannon and Multi Guided Missile Launcher trivialize most raid bosses including Bellanoir Libero Ultra.
| Chest Type | Key Drops | Respawn Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large Yellow Chest (main/Platform rig) | Ancient Civilization Cores, Legendary weapon schematics, 150-250 Crude Oil, Training Manuals | 30 min to 1 hour (world settings dependent) | Gated by enemy clear; randomized spawn location |
| Platform Rig Large Chest | Tier 4 Feybreak schematics (Plasma Cannon, Multi Guided Missile Launcher, Hexolite Armor) | 30 minutes | ~80 runs average for Tier 4 drop; use Drafting Table to merge Tier 3s |
| Small Chests (12-22 per rig) | Crude Oil, Skill Fruits, ammo, mid-tier schematics, Dog Coins | ~1 hour | Independent loot rolls; stack up across all chests |
| Barge Rig Large Chest | Legendary Poison Arrow Crossbow, Fire Arrow Crossbow, Crude Oil, Skill Fruits | ~1 hour | Entry-level legendary schematics; good for mid-game |
| Syndicate Thug drops | 5-10 Crude Oil each, Rocket Ammo | On enemy respawn | Respawn when you move far enough away |

Step-by-Step Oil Rig Clear Strategy
Best Oil Rig Farming Methods Compared
Lv 50-55, gearing up: Sakurajima Oil Rig. The Old World schematics it drops feed into the Endgame Checklist progression. Lv 60, hunting Legendary weapons: Rayne Syndicate Platform. Every meta DPS player runs this; the Plasma Cannon and Multi Guided Missile Launcher trivialize most raid bosses including Bellanoir Libero Ultra.
Common Oil Rig Misconceptions
Myth: You Can Permanently Clear an Oil Rig
No. Enemies respawn once you move far enough away, and the chests and turrets respawn after a set period (the large chest after about an hour of real time, depending on World Settings). Treat each visit as a fast smash-and-grab rather than a permanent clear. The oil rig isn’t conquerable-it’s a perpetual raid loop. It’s designed as a repeatable endgame farming location, not a one-time conquest like a Tower Boss.
Myth: Flying Is Always Better Than Swimming
While flying is faster for most travel, the former runs the risk of being taken down by laser cannons and turrets, so we recommend using the latter to get close. The anti-air lasers create a 350-meter kill zone around the main and Platform rigs. Swimming Pals like Jormuntide or Azurobe let you close the distance safely, then you can send out combat Pals once you’re on the rig itself. The Barge rig is the exception—it has no anti-air, so flying works fine there.
Myth: You Need a Full Team to Clear It
Solo clears are absolutely viable with the right gear and strategy. The reason is that the oil rig seem to be group content (bosses tower and legendary Pals too), if you’re solo tweak the setting, there is this misinformation going around that palworld is a solo game, it’s a multiplayer game that can be played purely solo but you have to adapt the setting to not suffer. If you’re struggling solo, you can adjust your world difficulty settings rather than waiting for a group. Player-damage rocket launcher builds handle the rig efficiently alone, especially once you know the large chest spawn locations and can rush them.
Our Take: Is Farming Oil Rigs Worth It in 1.0?
Our Take
The Platform Oil Rig is the single best repeatable legendary schematic farm in Palworld 1.0, but the grind is real and the payoff takes dozens of runs.
For new Legendary weapon schematics, the Level 60 Oil Rig near Fabre Island is cited as the best route. The key is to treat it as a chest farm, not a boss farm. Enter, open all chests, reset, then repeat, because weapon schematics are in the rig’s chest pool, not a guaranteed boss drop. If you’re chasing the Plasma Cannon or Multi Guided Missile Launcher for raid boss carries, this is your endgame loop. The ~80-run average for a Tier 4 schematic sounds brutal, but the Drafting Table cuts that to ~32 runs by letting you merge five Tier 3 schematics. That’s still a multi-hour commitment, but those weapons genuinely trivialize Ultra raid content.
For Ancient Civilization Cores, Oil Rigs compete directly with raid bosses. The large yellow chest, which spawns in one of a few random locations per in-game day and holds Ancient Civilization Cores – five of which craft endgame gear like the Ultra Shield. Raid bosses drop Cores more reliably per fight, but Oil Rigs let you farm them without burning through Summoning Slabs. If you’re in the slow burn between raid sessions, a few Oil Rig loops each hour keep the Core stockpile growing. Once you’ve got your core schematics and Cores, place an Oil Extractor on an Oil Field, power it with a generator and Electric Pals (Orserk is the fastest), and it produces Crude Oil continuously. Base automation beats manual rig runs for Crude Oil long-term, but rigs are your fast source while setting that up.
Honestly, the Platform rig is grindy but necessary if you’re min-maxing endgame DPS. The Barge and main rigs are excellent mid-game loot sources that accelerate your progression into the Level 60+ content. Just don’t expect instant legendary drops—this is a chest RNG farm that rewards persistence and efficient clear routes. If repeatable loot loops appeal to you more than one-shot raid boss slabs, Oil Rigs deliver.
