Breeding in Palworld 1.0 takes one male and one female Pal on a Breeding Farm, Cake in the farm’s box, and an incubator to hatch the egg. The in-game description of the farm says it plainly: Cake “is required for production”. On top of that loop, Pocketpair’s 1.0 changelog added four new cakes, a Mutation mechanic, new active-skill inheritance rules and a reshuffled combo table. Below: what to build and at which level, the full cake list with recipes, the steps, what changed from Early Access, and what to check when the farm isn’t producing.
TL;DR
- Loop: a male and female Pal on a Breeding Farm, cake in the box next to the fence, egg into an incubator. Farm unlocks at level 19, the basic Egg Incubator at level 10.
- Four new cakes: Mushroom slightly increases the likelihood of higher stats; Vegetable produces two eggs at once; Deluxe Vegetable increases mutation and stat-growth likelihood; Special increases the chance of inheriting multiple parental passives.
- Combos were “reviewed overall” in 1.0, so Early Access combo charts can give you the wrong child.
- The halved incubation time is the default for newly created Normal and Hard worlds. In an existing world, the hatch time is whatever its incubation setting is.
- v1.0.4 (7 Sep 2026) fixed Grintale’s mutated eggs not showing mutated stats. The v1.0.5 notes list no breeding-related changes.
Perfect Pal Breeding
Your chosen species bred to order
How Breeding Works in Palworld 1.0
You build a Breeding Farm, assign one male and one female Pal to it, and put Cake in its box. The farm then lays eggs into its own storage, which holds up to 20. You carry an egg to an incubator; the in-game text of the Egg Incubator says an egg left in it “will automatically hatch after some time has passed.” That covers the timer; to get the Pal you still interact with the incubator once the egg is ready, per Game8’s 1.0 breeding guide. Unlock levels, point costs and materials below are game data for the current build (v1.0.5, 15 September 2026) as listed by paldb.cc, not developer statements.
| Structure | Unlock level | Points | Materials | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cooking Pot | 17 | 2 Technology | Wooden Board 5, Ingot 15, Flame Organ 3 | Cooks Cake; needs a Fire Pal |
| Breeding Farm | 19 | 2 Ancient Technology | Wooden Board 10, Stone 20, Fiber 50 | One male + one female Pal; Cake required; stores up to 20 eggs |
| Egg Incubator | 10 | 1 Ancient Technology | Paldium Fragment 10, Cloth 5, Stone 30, Ancient Civilization Parts 2 | Hatches one egg over time; interact to collect the Pal |
| Electric Egg Incubator | 36 | 5 Ancient Technology | Refined Ingot 50, Circuit Board 15, Ancient Civilization Parts 5, Ancient Civilization Core 2 | Keeps the temperature right on its own; uses power |
| Large-Scale Electric Egg Incubator | 58 | 5 Ancient Technology | Hexolite 100, Circuit Board 50, Ancient Civilization Parts 30, Ancient Civilization Core 20 | 10 slots, incubation speed +100% |
Plain Cake recipe (game data, v1.0.5): Flour 5, Red Berries 8, Milk 7, Egg 8, Honey 2. It comes with the Cooking Pot and can also be made in the Electric Kitchen, Large-Scale Stone Oven and Ancient Kitchen.
Every Palworld 1.0 Cake and What It Does
Pocketpair’s official v1.0 release changelog on Steam added four cakes alongside Mutation. The effects below are quoted from that changelog; unlock levels and recipes are game data for v1.0.5.
The game data calls the third cake “Extravagant Vegetable Cake”; Pocketpair’s changelog calls it Deluxe Vegetable Cake. Each of the four is a separate Technology unlock at 4 points.
These three numbers come directly from Pocketpair’s official v1.0 changelog.
| Cake | Official 1.0 effect (Pocketpair) | Unlock level | Recipe (game data, v1.0.5) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mushroom Cake | "Slightly increases the likelihood that newly born Pals will have higher stats." | 30 | Flour 5, Mushroom 5, Cavern Mushroom 3, Egg 8, Honey 2 |
| Vegetable Cake | "Produces two Pal Eggs at once." | 47 | Flour 8, Tomato 8, Lettuce 7, Egg 8, Honey 4 (Electric Kitchen or better) |
| Deluxe Vegetable Cake | "Increases the likelihood of mutations and makes stat growth more likely." | 60 | Flour 12, Cotton Candy 8, Potato 10, Onion 6, Carrot 8 (Large-Scale Stone Oven or Ancient Kitchen) |
| Special Cake | "Increases the chance of inheriting multiple passive skills from Pal parents." | 74 | Flour 20, Caramel Cotton Candy 8, Milk 15, Egg 15, Mammorest Meat 2 (Ancient Kitchen only) |
Step-by-Step: Your First Egg in 1.0

The 1.0 loop in five steps.
-
1
Unlock and build the Breeding Farm
Unlock it at level 19 for 2 Ancient Technology Points and build it from 10 Wooden Boards, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber.
-
2
Check the pair in a 1.0 calculator
Combos were reviewed overall in 1.0, so confirm the child with a current tool such as the PalMods breeding calculator before you assign anyone.
-
3
Assign one male and one female Pal
Put the pair on the farm, and set each parent's three active skill slots first, because inherited active skills are drawn from those slots.
-
4
Place a cake in the box by the fence
The farm’s in-game description says Cake is required for production, so keep its box stocked; the farm stores up to 20 eggs.
-
5
Move the egg to an Egg Incubator
The incubator timer runs on its own, but the Pal does not come out by itself: when the egg is ready, interact with the incubator (hold the interact button) to hatch it. Game8’s 1.0 breeding guide says the Pal joins your party if there is room, otherwise it goes to the Palbox.
What 1.0 Changed From Early Access Breeding
These are the breeding lines from the 1.0 changelog, each stated once.
Combos Reviewed Overall
Pocketpair wrote that “Pal breeding combinations have been reviewed overall” to give “an acquisition experience that matches game progression”. For the new-Pal combos, see our Palworld 1.0 new Pals tier list and breeding combos.
Active Skill Inheritance
Inherited active skills “are now randomly selected from the three active skill slots set on the parent Pals”.
Mutation and Faster Incubation
Breeding now “has a low chance of producing a Pal stronger than the normal breeding result”. Pals from mutated eggs “have higher stats and a unique passive skill”. Egg incubation time was halved only “in newly created Normal and Hard difficulty worlds”. How mutation ties into Awakening is covered in our Awakening and Mutation guide.
Warning
An Early Access combo chart can point you at a pair that now hatches a different Pal, and you lose the cake and the incubator time. Check every pair against a 1.0 calculator.
Note
The halved time is the default for Normal and Hard worlds created in 1.0. An existing world or server hatches eggs on whatever its incubation setting says (on dedicated servers that is PalEggDefaultHatchingTime), so check the setting rather than the age of the save.
Mutation fixes in v1.0.4: the 7 September 2026 patch fixed an issue where “Mutated Eggs increased by Grintale’s Passive Skill did not reflect mutated stat values”. That tells us a passive can raise mutated eggs. The same patch fixed the Idiosyncratic mutation passive not activating correctly. Both are listed as fixed in v1.0.4, so mutations bred before 7 September may have been affected. v1.0.5 (15 Sep 2026) only lists texture and map-icon fixes.
What Is Official, What Is Game Data
Three kinds of evidence are used here. Official: the cake effects, the combo review, mutation, active-skill inheritance and the incubation change, all from Pocketpair’s 1.0 changelog and the v1.0.4 notes. Game data: unlock levels, points, materials, recipes and in-game descriptions, as listed for v1.0.5 by paldb.cc. Not established: passive inheritance chances, the mutation rate, the Alpha rate and a full combo table for 1.0 — none of these is in the official notes, and we have not verified a data source for them, so this guide gives no numbers.
IV inheritance and condensing are covered in our IV and condensing guide.

Choosing a Cake for Your Breeding Goal

Match the cake to what you’re after. Special Cake is for passive inheritance, Mushroom Cake for stats, Deluxe Vegetable Cake for mutations, and Vegetable Cake when you just want more eggs. This split is our reading of Pocketpair’s descriptions, not a tested ranking.
Pocketpair only calls mutation “a low chance”, so plan for a long run of eggs rather than a fixed count. The notes also don’t say whether a mutation passive is passed on when you breed a mutated Pal again.
Not everyone has the evenings for this — Palworld boosting covers the same ground with someone else on the keys.
Why Your Breeding Farm Isn’t Producing Eggs
- No Cake in the farm’s box. The in-game description says Cake is required for production.
- Wrong pair. The farm takes exactly two Pals, one male and one female.
- Storage full. The farm holds up to 20 eggs; empty it.
- Pals not working at all. If the Pals stand idle, go through our Pals not working at base checklist.
Our Take: Is 1.0 Breeding Worth It?
Our Take
Breeding one target Pal is simple in 1.0. Chasing a mutated Pal with chosen passives is an open-ended grind.
The cakes give each breeding goal its own tool, and drawing active skills from the three set slots makes planning easier. Pocketpair does not say how many eggs a mutated Pal with chosen passives takes.
In an existing world, check its incubation setting before you plan around the halved time.
