Wingman 2v2 is Bodycam‘s default competitive mode as of the September 2, 2026 v0.8 Major Update, having fully replaced the old Bodybomb 5v5 format, per Reissad’s official patch notes. Steam’s store page describes it as a tactical 2v2 Search & Destroy mode with no hero abilities, killstreaks or movement exploits. This guide covers how queueing works today, which of the four progression systems — ELO, rank, matchmaking and Reissad Points — Wingman actually touches, what the mode pays in RP, and what Reissad Studio still hasn’t published about it.

TL;DR

  • Bodybomb is gone; Wingman 2v2 is the new default competitive mode and the only mode that moves rank and ELO.
  • Solo queue only for now, matchmaking is not skill-based, and rewards are fixed no matter who you beat.
  • Wingman got a +100% Reissad Points multiplier in Patch #2, the largest bump alongside Versus.
  • Rank names, ELO thresholds and loss penalties remain unpublished as of Patch #4 (11 September 2026).
  • Check keybinds before your first ranked session — Patch #4 reworked how perk and character inputs are bound.

What Is Wingman 2v2 in Bodycam

Wingman is the small-team competitive mode Reissad Studio built to replace Bodybomb 5v5. Reissad Studio develops and publishes Bodycam itself, and the studio has been explicit about the intent behind the change: “Bodybomb has been retired and replaced by Wingman, which becomes the default competitive mode.” The stated design goal is faster, tighter matches rather than a straight scaled-down version of the old mode — “Wingman is designed around faster rounds, tighter encounters, and more focused teamplay.” The update also added bombsite setup to compatible maps and reworked how bomb handling works, though the patch notes don’t say which maps got bombsite support, how many rounds a match runs, or what the round economy looks like.

Zombie Mode is temporarily disabled since Patch #1, with a planned return around Halloween. Oil Rig and Tumblewood are not part of v0.8 at all. For a broader look at what changed across the whole update, the beginner guide to Bodycam after v0.8 covers the rest of the launch.

Ranks, ELO and Matchmaking: What Each One Does in Wingman

Four systems get lumped together in most Wingman threads. Reissad’s notes treat them separately, so this guide does too:

  • ELO — the rating that moves after a match. Since v0.8 it is “only gained by playing the competitive game mode Wingman 2v2”; no other mode in the rotation touches it, and the same update “improved rank calculation reliability and performance.”
  • Rank — the tier shown on your profile, derived from ELO. Rank names, the ELO thresholds behind them and loss penalties are not published anywhere across the Major Update or Patches #1 through #4.
  • Matchmaking — who you are paired with and against. Per the developer note it “is not skill-based yet”, so your ELO does not currently decide your opponents.
  • Reissad Points — the currency for weapon and attachment unlocks. It has nothing to do with rank; what Wingman pays in RP has its own section below.

The same developer note adds that “rewards are currently fixed. In the future, we plan to base rewards on opponents’ skill level, so defeating stronger players will be more rewarding.” For now, then, a win against a much stronger duo is rewarded exactly like a win against an even one, and climbing is a function of your own win rate on a fixed table rather than of who you beat.

Where the grind outlasts the interest, Bodycam boosting picks it up from wherever the account already stands.

Wingman Queue Rules: Solo, No Backfill, Host Migration

A gloved hand rests alone on a railing in an empty stairwell under flat grey light.
Illustration: a single hand alone on an empty rusted railing.

Wingman is for now only available for solo queues, due to technical reasons, duo-queue will be enabled asap. That’s a real constraint if you were hoping to rank up alongside a friend — for now you’re paired with a random teammate every match. On top of that, matches cannot be joined once they are in progress, so if your teammate drops mid-round there’s no way for a replacement to fill that slot for the rest of that match.

Two later patches touched the mode’s plumbing rather than its rules: Patch #1 (3 September) fixed a client-side Wingman defuse issue that could cause a softlock, and Patch #4 (11 September) improved team balancing at match start and fixed another client-side Wingman defuse issue — worth knowing if you read older complaints about stuck defuses.

If the match host disconnects instead, a separate system kicks in: when the host disconnects, another player becomes the new host, selected on ping. The game then attempts to restart the match from the latest known state, preserving key match information. The notes say the game “attempts to restart from the latest known game state, in a range of maximum 5 sec”; positions, magazine ammo, kills, deaths and dropped weapons can be restored, and the current Wingman round restarts rather than resuming mid-round. It isn’t unlimited, though — Host Migration is not available once a match has ended. If the host leaves at that point, all players will return to the Lobby. The Party System didn’t ship with v0.8 either: Quick Play and the Server Browser are solo-only, and playing with friends means creating a Custom game together or joining the same server separately.

Warning

Solo queue plus no skill-based matchmaking plus fixed rewards means a lopsided Wingman match is a real possibility right now, and there’s no in-match way to fix a dropped teammate’s slot once the round has started.

What Wingman Pays in Reissad Points

Reissad Points (RP) are the currency that unlocks weapons and attachments, and Patch #2 rebalanced how fast every mode earns them. Wingman got the single largest bump available, tied only with Versus. Separately, Patch #3 closed a loophole elsewhere in the economy: “Fixed an exploit in Versus that allowed excessive currency gains.” That matters for anyone grinding rank and RP in the same sessions, since Wingman itself wasn’t touched by that fix and its higher multiplier stands as-is. Private lobbies also earn RP again after Patch #3, at half the standard rate — a change covered in more detail in the Patch #3 earnings breakdown. For the full unlock-cost picture beyond Wingman specifically, see the Reissad Points and unlock costs guide.

2v2 vs 5v5: What Actually Changes in a Wingman Round

A narrow derelict corridor with peeling walls and a doorway at the far end.
Illustration: a tight corridor with nowhere to spread out.

With two players per side instead of five, planting and defusing sit on you and one teammate, and a single death leaves your partner alone for the rest of the round. Beyond that, the v0.8 notes say only that Wingman support and bombsite setup were added to compatible maps and that side switching and round-flow rules were adjusted; the round count, timers and buy economy are not published.

Two other v0.8 systems apply to every mode but are easiest to notice with four players on the map. The audio overhaul improved vertical audio perception between floors, added shockwave propagation through corridors, stairwells and openings, and added bullet whiz-by and crack feedback when a shot passes close. Drones and RC cars arrived as scouting tools in the same update, both on a deployment cooldown with an additional cooldown on loadout change to prevent abuse.

Getting Ready for Your First Ranked Wingman Session

Follow this sequence to get it done fast.

  1. 1

Build a loadout on the tactical tablet

pick your base weapon and unlock attachments with Reissad Points before you queue; the attachments guide covers compatibility rules across categories.

  2. 2

Check your keybinds after Patch #4

the patch reworked keybinding conflict handling to make input rebinding more reliable and split perk and character inputs into separate binds, so some previously modified keys may need to be rebound.

  3. 3

    Set your expectations before queueing

solo queue only, no skill-based matchmaking, and fixed rewards regardless of who you're facing.

  4. 4

    Queue Wingman through Quick Play

remember Quick Play and the Server Browser are currently solo-only until the Party System ships.

  5. 5

Stay in the match if host migration triggers

the game attempts to restart from the last known state rather than ending the lobby, so leaving early forfeits that recovery.

Myth-Busting: Common Wrong Ideas About Wingman Ranks

“I can duo-queue with a friend right now”

Not yet. Wingman is solo-queue only for the moment, with duo-queue planned for a future update but not live today.

“Beating a much stronger duo is rewarded more”

Not yet. Rewards are fixed regardless of the opponent’s skill; Reissad has said scaling by opponent skill is planned, not that it is live. Reissad Points are a separate system and are paid per mode, not per opponent.

“If my teammate quits, someone else can join to fill the slot”

No — matches cannot be joined once they’re in progress, so a dropped teammate’s slot stays empty for the rest of that match.

Our Take: Is Wingman 2v2 Worth Queuing Right Now

Our Take

The mode itself is a solid structural change; the systems around it are still half-built.

Replacing Bodybomb with a tighter 2v2 format and tying rank and ELO to it exclusively is a clear, sensible design decision. But the mode is launching without duo queue, without skill-based matchmaking, and without a published rank ladder, which means anyone chasing a specific rank right now is chasing a target Reissad hasn’t actually drawn yet.

That’s not a reason to skip it — it’s a reason to treat your current rank as a snapshot of a system still being built, not a fixed ladder you can plan around season to season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is duo queue available for Wingman 2v2 yet?
No. Wingman is solo-queue only for now due to technical reasons, with duo-queue planned "asap" but not given a date.
Does beating a stronger opponent give more ELO in Wingman?
Not currently. Matchmaking isn't skill-based yet and rewards are fixed regardless of opponent skill; Reissad has said scaling rewards by opponent skill is planned.
What happens if my teammate disconnects mid-match?
Matches can't be joined once they're in progress, so that slot can't be backfilled for the rest of the match.
What happens if the match host disconnects?
A new host is selected based on ping and the match attempts to restart from the latest known state, with the current Wingman round restarting; this only works while the match is still running, not after it has ended.
Do I need to check my keybinds before playing ranked Wingman?
It's worth it. Patch #4 reworked keybinding conflict handling and split perk and character inputs into separate binds, and some previously modified keys may need rebinding.
