The Division 2 Dust Storm event ran from July 21 to August 11, 2026, turning Lower Manhattan into a rotating sandstorm zone with two new named bosses, a roaming Hunter, and a currency called Storm Keys that unlocked the event’s headline reward, the Rabid D50 pistol. It arrived with update TU Y8S2.2, and everything about it was time-gated to that window.

Checked 11 October 2026: the Dust Storm event ran from 21 July to 11 August 2026 and closed without an extension, and the free Warlords of New York access ended with it. What runs instead in Red Horizon (Year 8 Season 3, live since 27 August): Red Moon Rising in the PvE Dark Zone until 3 November, with the new Vertigo and Sarru Exotics (see our PvE Dark Zone guide), and the Echoes of Central Park DLC launches on 3 November (what is known so far). This page stays as the record of how Dust Storm worked and what it awarded, based on Ubisoft’s [TUY8S2.2] Dust Storm Event notes (Steam, 20 July 2026).

En resumen

  • Dust Storm ran 21 July – 11 August 2026 on the New York map; it required Level 40 and a completed Warlords of New York campaign, which was free during the event
  • A Calm Dust Storm lasted up to 18 minutes; a Raging Dust Storm followed for 8 minutes with lower visibility and continuous Dust Devil spawns
  • 50 Named Dust Devil kills spawned Pall and Black Lung together, in any weather
  • Storm Keys came from Dust Devil Kill Squads, the two bosses and the Scoured Hunter; the Daily Boost halved the kills per key for your first 150 kills each day
  • The standard Rabid D50 was a 10% Gear Cache roll and its Prototype version 1%; contributing 100 keys guaranteed the Prototype Event Weapon as a Personal Milestone

What Was the Dust Storm Event in The Division 2?

Sandstorms rolled into Lower Manhattan, turning New York into a low-visibility hunting ground with a Rikers group called the Dust Devils, two event bosses, a roaming Hunter and a Storm Key economy that fed the Event Vendor in Haven. The weather cycled between a Calm Dust Storm, the default state on loading into the New York map, which lasted up to 18 minutes (the timer restarted on each login), and an 8-minute Raging Dust Storm with even less visibility; after a Raging storm the weather returned either to a calm storm or briefly to clear skies. Every player who logged in during the event received the Parched Mask for free.

The Dust Devils punished range: they had 80% Status Resistance against Agents more than 26 meters away and dealt 50% less damage at that distance, but took 50% more damage from Agents within 10 meters, so close-range builds did best. Participation required a Level 40 character and a completed Warlords of New York campaign, and Warlords of New York was free for all players for the duration of the event. That free access ended with the event; if you are still short of Level 40, our leveling guide covers the fastest route.

Where the grind outlasts the interest, Boosting de The Division 2 picks it up from wherever the account already stands.

Where Storm Keys Came From

Storm Keys came from three sources: Dust Devil Kill Squads, the bosses Pall and Black Lung (one key each per defeat), and the Scoured Hunter. Kill Squads of four Named enemies spawned on a six-minute timer and hunted you down; during a Raging storm enemies spawned continuously, up to six at once and up to 48 in a single Raging storm, and spawns did not trigger while you stood still. On top of the squads, 20 hidden caches were spread across New York: destroying one gave gear from the same pool as the Event Vendor’s Gear Caches and called in a group of Named Dust Devils, and the Dust Devils repaired the caches after each daily reset.

Keys were guaranteed on a kill count that scaled with difficulty: one key per 14 kills on Normal and Hard, 12 on Challenging and 10 on Heroic. The Daily Boost halved that requirement for your first 150 kills, resetting 24 hours after the first event squad you killed, so using those discounted kills first each day was the biggest efficiency lever in the event.

Spawns paused while you stood still, so moving kept the kills flowing during a Raging storm; camping a corner slowed the key farm.

Step-by-Step: How the Dust Storm Boss Farm Worked

The sequence that worked during the event, 21 July to 11 August 2026.

  1. 1

    Confirm entry requirements

Level 40 and a finished Warlords of New York campaign, which was free for everyone during the event.

  2. 2

    Burn your daily boost first

The first 150 kills each day needed half as many kills per key, so they came before anything else.

  3. 3

Farm Dust Devil Kill Squads during Raging Storm

During a Raging Dust Storm, Dust Devils spawned continuously, up to six at once and up to 48 per storm.

  4. 4

Push to 50 named kills for the boss spawn

Near 50 Named Dust Devil kills a Call for Backup prompt appeared, and both bosses spawned once the 50 were reached.

  5. 5

Clear Pall and Black Lung together

Pall was a sniper with a Sniper Turret and Decoy who did not show up on Pulse; Black Lung was an LMG tank backed by an Artillery Turret. Each dropped a Storm Key, plus a unique mask on the first defeat.

  6. 6

Stick around after the storm dies down

The Scoured Hunter attacked once a Raging Dust Storm had subsided, so it paid to stay in the area after the wind dropped.

Storm Key Farming Methods That Worked

Advertencia

On Heroic, taking both bosses solo was risky: by the time you hit the 50-kill threshold you had already been in a long fight, and your resources were stretched.

Storm Key Rewards and What They Unlocked

Storm Keys were spent at the Event Vendor in Haven on Apparel Caches and Gear Caches. Separately, every key counted toward a cross-platform Community Challenge and toward your own Personal Milestones.

Rabid D50: a 10% roll, or a guaranteed Prototype at 100 keys

The event weapon was the Rabid D50, a Named D50 pistol. Its Foam at the Mouth talent applied Ensnare to the next enemy you hit after a headshot kill and amplified weapon damage by 25% against Ensnared enemies. In Gear Caches the standard Rabid D50 was a 10% roll and the Prototype Rabid D50 a 1% roll, so neither was guaranteed there. The guaranteed route was the Personal Milestones: contributing 100 keys awarded the Prototype Event Weapon.

Gear Cache odds, as Ubisoft published them

Gear Cache rollChance
Special Named Items (Stack Broker, Lexington, Turmoil, Caretaker, Shield Splinterer, Huntsman, Hunter-Killer, Handbasket)20%
Exotic Items (Exotic Cache drops, Caduceus, Nurse’s Kneepads, Tinkerer, Tempest, Blacklisters, Sheriff, Provocator, Birdie’s Quick Fix)15%
Gear Mods / Skill Mods16.5% each
Seasonal Named Items10%
Rabid D5010%
Prototype Rabid D501%
Prototype Gear Set / Prototype Seasonal Named Weapons0.5% each

Apparel Caches: 43 vanity items

Apparel Caches held only vanity items, with no duplicates: six outfits (Wired, Vagabond, Parched, Breathless, Breathless Grey and Yield) plus Parched and Black Lung headgear in three colour variants, 43 items in all. Collecting all 43 unlocked the Black Blizzard Scanner Pulse Skill VFX, and Apparel Keys could also be bought with Premium Credits. The 43 are the apparel set only, not the whole reward pool.

Personal Milestones and the Community Challenge

The Community Challenge paid all players the Pall Jacket at 1 million keys, the Pall Boots at 5 million and the Pall Pants at 10 million, and joining late still qualified once a milestone was reached. Personal Milestones counted the keys you contributed:

Keys contributedPersonal Milestone reward
10Scorpion Arm Patch
20St Elmo’s Engine (Exotic)
40Howl Arm Patch
60Lexington (Named)
80Cactus Arm Patch
100Prototype Event Weapon
125Rattler Arm Patch
150Scarab Lexington skin
175Howdy Arm Patch
200St Elmo’s Engine Red Alert skin

For Exotics outside the event, the Division 2 exotic farming guide covers the current routes.

Realism Mode returned with new skins

Realism Mode returned for the duration of the event as a separate character journey through the Warlords of New York campaign, with a reduced HUD and faster, more lethal fights. Completing the Liberty Island mission earned the Salt Flat MK46 LMG skin, and completing it with a Hardcore Character added the Kill Count MK46 skin; finishing with a Hardcore Character also awarded the returning Arid Forest KSG camo and Concrete Police M4 camo. Previous Realism Mode characters were removed, so everyone started from the beginning.

Common Misconceptions About the Dust Storm Event

“You have to fight Pall and Black Lung separately”

They spawned simultaneously, for groups and solo players alike, so the fight was always a double-boss fight.

“You need an active storm to get the bosses”

No: they could spawn in any weather once the threshold of 50 Named Dust Devil kills was reached, in clear weather, a calm storm or a raging one.

“The Scoured Hunter is a guaranteed farm route”

Ubisoft only said the Hunter attacked after a Raging storm subsided, wore a distinctive mask and carried Storm Keys. It was a bonus on top of Kill Squads and bosses, not a route of its own.

Our Take: Was the Dust Storm Event Worth It?

Nuestra opinión

It was worth doing if you played regularly, and skippable if you were already burned out on gear grinds.

The Daily Boost was the smartest part of the design: halving the kill requirement for the first 150 kills each day rewarded players who logged in daily over those who tried to Marathon the event in one sitting. The Raging Storm phase, with continuous spawns and low visibility, also made the New York map feel dangerous again for a few minutes at a time.

Where it got grindy was the standard Rabid D50: a 10% Gear Cache roll on top of the key economy. The reliable target was the Prototype Event Weapon, guaranteed at 100 contributed keys. The event also stacked a lot of systems at once (Storm Keys, hidden caches, Community Challenge and Personal Milestones, plus the separate McMillan Reservoir Assault and returning Realism Mode), which was a lot to track in a three-week window, and casual players likely cleared only part of the reward list before 11 August.

Preguntas frecuentes

When did the Dust Storm event end?
It ran until August 11, 2026 and was not extended; Red Horizon (Year 8 Season 3) went live on August 27, 2026 without it.
How did you unlock Pall and Black Lung?
By killing 50 Named Dust Devils. Both bosses then arrived together, regardless of group size or weather.
Where did the Scoured Hunter appear?
Ubisoft gave no fixed location: the Hunter attacked agents once a Raging Dust Storm had subsided, so staying in the area after a Raging phase was the way to meet it.
What is McMillan Reservoir Assault?
A Classified Assignment that launched alongside the event on July 21, 2026: you respond to a distress signal from a fellow Agent and navigate a faction war between the Hyenas and True Sons to rescue them. At launch it came with the Into the Dark Bundle and Supply Drop, or cost 500 Premium Credits on its own; our McMillan Reservoir Assault walkthrough covers the mission.
Can I still get the Rabid D50?
Not from this event: its Gear Caches and milestones closed with Dust Storm on August 11, 2026. During the event the standard pistol was a 10% Gear Cache roll, and 100 contributed keys guaranteed the Prototype Event Weapon. Whether it drops anywhere now is not stated in the Red Horizon or TU Y8S3.1 notes (checked October 11, 2026).
