Camo tiers in Black Ops 7 are the three-stage ladder every weapon climbs before it can wear a Mastery skin: Military camos first, then Special camos, then the Mastery set. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, you can unlock 16 camos per weapon in campaign, Zombies, and Multiplayer, with every weapon in Multiplayer carrying nine Military camos, three Special camos, and four Mastery camos. The tiers are not optional side content — they gate each other, and the top of the ladder gates itself across your whole armory. Weapon camouflages are unlocked alongside tiers of the Weapon Level system, and once unlocked they are universal and usable on any weapon, with completionist camos as the exception.
The four Multiplayer Mastery camos are Shattered Gold, Arclight, Tempest, and Singularity, and they are not four independent grinds — each one sits on top of the last, with the requirement widening from a single gun to an entire weapon class to your whole roster. This is the mechanic the rest of this guide is built around, written for Season 5 of Black Ops 7.
| Stage | What It Requires | What to Close Alongside It |
|---|---|---|
| Military (9 tiers) | Sequential per-weapon challenges tied to basic kills and usage | Level multiple guns in the same class together so their Military tracks finish in the same window |
| Special (3 challenges) | Unlocked once Military is finished on that weapon | You don't have to follow a strict order here, as Special Camos can be tackled however you like, so slot them into whatever objective naturally comes up |
| Mastery tier 1 (e.g. Shattered Gold) | Full Military and Special complete on one specific weapon | Don't stop at your favorite gun — this exact tier is the entry ticket the class-wide stage checks for on every weapon |
| Mastery tier 2/3 (class-wide, e.g. Arclight) | Earn the equivalent of Gold on every weapon in a class, for example all Assault Rifles or all Sniper Rifles | This is exactly why spreading Military and Special evenly across a class up front saves the most time later |
| Final Mastery (account-wide, e.g. Singularity) | Unlocking Tempest on all 30 weapons in BO7 is the gate for Singularity, and Singularity itself has no dedicated challenge of its own | Nothing left to combine — by design this stage clears itself once everything upstream is done |
Where to Get Camos in Black Ops 7
Camo progress comes from four separate places — Multiplayer, Zombies, Warzone, and Campaign/Endgame — and each mode runs its own version of the Military/Special/Mastery ladder rather than sharing one pool. Just like in previous Black Ops titles, BO7 Zombies splits its camo grind into three tiers, with Military Camos handing out simple challenges and basic skins. Warzone follows the same three-tier split, with straightforward Military challenges leading into tougher Special and Mastery work. Campaign contributes its own track topped by the Genesis Mastery camo, which uses story missions and Endgame replays instead of PvP lobbies.
Tip
Because Military tiers unlock in sequence per weapon, the fastest way to reach a class-wide Mastery tier is to run two or three guns from the same class through Military and Special in the same sessions, instead of finishing one gun completely before touching the next.
| Source | What You Get | Requirement | Who It Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiplayer | The core track that feeds the 30-weapon Singularity requirement | Kills, headshots, and objective plays across all three tiers | Players chasing the account-wide Mastery goal |
| Zombies | A separate ladder topped by its own Infestation Mastery camo | Treyarch has eased up on the camo requirements this year, making BO7's grind smoother than BO6 | Players who prefer PvE pacing over matchmaking pressure |
| Warzone | Its own three-tier grind, now heavier per weapon | Every weapon now has three Special Camo challenges in BO7 Warzone instead of two; Mastery camo availability here has rolled out post-launch and may vary by season, so treat it as unconfirmed for the current build | Players who want high kill volume fast |
| Campaign / Endgame | A separate Genesis Mastery track | A glowing emerald finish that pulses brighter as you move through combat zones, earned through story and Endgame replays | Players who want camos without competitive lobbies |
Step-by-Step: BO7 Camo Grind Walkthrough
Follow this sequence to get it done fast.
-
1
Pick the weapon class first, not the gun
decide which class you want to push to its class-wide Mastery tier before you commit hours to any single favorite weapon.
-
2
Run Military tiers across the whole class in parallel
rotate between guns each session so all of them clear their nine Military tiers around the same time instead of one gun racing ahead alone.
-
3
Clear Special challenges as they come up
since Special Camos can be tackled however you like, knock them out opportunistically rather than detouring your loadout for one gun at a time.
-
4
Push each gun to its first Mastery tier only once the class
this stacks the class-wide requirement instead of leaving a straggler weapon you have to circle back for later.
-
5
Let the account-wide final tier resolve on its own
once enough classes clear their class-wide tier, the 30-weapon threshold for the last Mastery camo tends to complete without a dedicated push, since unlocking that prior tier on all 30 weapons is the challenge in itself.
-
6
Check the in-game stats screen regularly
tracking performance can help identify which guns or modes are slowing progress, so you catch a stalled weapon before it becomes the bottleneck for the whole class.
Which Camo Conditions You Can't Combine in the Same Match
Some challenge pairs are mutually exclusive by design, and this is the one part of the grind where sequencing genuinely cannot save you time. Attachment-count challenges are the clearest example: a requirement like getting 50 eliminations with five or more attachments equipped cannot be stacked with any challenge that caps or excludes attachments, since your loadout can only satisfy one condition at a time. The same logic applies across modes — Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone each run their own Military/Special/Mastery sets, so kills earned in one mode do not progress the camo challenges tracked in another.
Warning
Don’t assume a play session can quietly serve two conflicting objectives. If one challenge needs a stripped-down loadout and another needs a heavily attached one, or if you’re grinding two different modes for the same weapon, budget them as separate matches rather than hoping progress overlaps.
Best BO7 Camo Farming Methods
| Method | Speed | Effort | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiplayer core modes (objective/kill-focused) | Fast | Low | Military tiers and general kill-volume challenges |
| Zombies round-based survival | Moderate | Low to moderate | Point-blank, melee, and elite-kill challenges, especially now that Treyarch has eased up on the camo requirements this year |
| Warzone large lobbies | Fast for raw kill count | Higher, since survival risk cuts sessions short | Long-range and critical-kill challenges, and the heavier three-part Special track |
| Objective modes (Domination/Hardpoint-style) | Moderate | Moderate | Objective-kill Special challenges, such as getting 30 objective kills |
Camo Rewards and What You Unlock
Three Special Camos Instead of Two This Year
Both Warzone and Zombies now run three Special Camo challenges instead of two per weapon, one more than the previous game. It’s a small change on paper, but multiplied across 30-plus weapons it adds a real chunk of extra work compared to last year’s grind.
The Last Mastery Tier Often Unlocks Automatically
In Zombies, the final Mastery Camo across all modes now unlocks automatically once you’ve earned the previous Mastery tier on 30 different weapons, a return to the older Black Ops style with no separate final challenge per gun. Multiplayer works the same way for Singularity — there’s nothing to grind directly for the very last camo beyond finishing everything that feeds into it.
| Reward | How You Get It | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Military camo set | Complete all nine sequential per-weapon challenges | Opens the Special track and gives the weapon its first real camo look |
| Special camo | Clear all three flexible challenges after Military is done | Once unlocked, camouflages are universal and can be used on any weapon at any point |
| Mastery tier 1 (Shattered Gold) | Full Military and Special on that one weapon | The classic "mained this gun" signal, and the checkpoint the class-wide tier checks for |
| Class-wide Mastery (Arclight) | Earning the equivalent of Gold on every weapon in a class | This is where the real grind begins, since one unfinished gun in the class blocks the whole tier |
| Account-wide Mastery (Singularity / Infestation) | Prior Mastery tier across 30 weapons | The completion badge for the mode, with no separate challenge of its own |
Common Misconceptions About BO7 Camo Grinding
Myth: Special Camos Have a Fixed Order
They don’t. Unlike Military Camos, you don’t have to follow a strict order here, as Special Camos can be tackled however you like, so there’s no reason to force a specific sequence beyond what naturally fits your session.
Myth: Progress Carries Over Between Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone
It doesn’t. Each mode runs its own three-tier grind with its own Military, Special, and Mastery requirements, so a kill logged in Warzone does nothing for a Multiplayer camo challenge and vice versa. Plan grinding time per mode, not per weapon across modes.
Myth: It Doesn’t Matter Which Weapon You Grind First
It does, and this is the expensive misconception. Because the class-wide Mastery tier needs Gold-equivalent completion on every weapon in a class, delaying a gun you don’t enjoy using doesn’t remove the work — it just moves it to the end, right when it’s blocking the tier every other weapon in that class is waiting on. Grinding camos on a weapon you dislike is rarely optional once you’re chasing anything past the single-gun Mastery tier, so factor that dead weight in early instead of discovering it late.
Our Take: Is Chasing Every Camo Worth It?
Our Take
The order you grind in matters more than which weapon you pick.
Given how BO7 stacks Military into Special into a class-wide tier into an account-wide tier, the biggest time sink isn’t a hard challenge — it’s discovering late that a class-wide or account-wide stage is waiting on a gun you ignored. Spreading early tiers across a full class before pushing anyone to Mastery is the one habit that consistently avoids redoing work.
Full completion across every mode is still a genuine time investment, and nothing here shrinks that. What sequencing buys you is fewer wasted sessions, not a shortcut around the grind itself — treat any claim of a universal fast route with skepticism, since incompatible challenge conditions guarantee some matches simply can’t be combined.
