AION 2 global servers are picked in three steps, region first, then faction, then a server, and each server holds only one faction. This guide covers the five launch regions and their pair counts, the full Elyos/Asmodian pair table, what is shared across servers, the 14 October transfer rules and a short decision list for a new character. NCSOFT publishes the global notices used here, and the game launches on Windows PC via Steam and PURPLE on 5 October 2026 at 13:00 UTC.

TL;DR

  • Pick order is Region, then Faction, then Server, and a server holds one faction only (Elyos or Asmodian).
  • The Matchmaking notice lists Europe 18, NA East 8, LATAM 6, NA West 5 and ASIA 5 pairs — 42 regional pairs, 84 servers. The Launch Servers List shows a sixth ASIA pair, Ariel–Azphel.
  • Advanced Access servers are pairs 1–9 in Europe, 1–3 in NA East and ASIA, and 1–2 in NA West and LATAM; the rest are launch servers.
  • Each Elyos server is matched with one Asmodian server for the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts, and NC says it will update pairings periodically.
  • Dungeons are cross-server; announced same-faction transfers start on 14 October, initially free, and Advanced Access characters can move only between Advanced Access servers.

How Server Choice Works: Region, Faction, Server

In AION 2 the Elyos and Asmodians live on their own servers, so the faction you want is decided by which server you join. The order is Region, then Faction, then one of the servers listed for that region. NC lists five launch regions: Europe, NA West, NA East, Latin America (LATAM) and ASIA. For latency, NC states that server locations are confirmed in North America, South America, Europe and Japan.

Population figures, queue times and ping values for any region or server are not in the NC notices read for this guide. Treat any number you see elsewhere for those as unconfirmed.

AION 2 Global Servers by Region: Pairs at Launch

The Launch Server Matchmaking notice of 4 October gives each region a numbered list of Elyos/Asmodian pairs: Europe 18, NA East 8, LATAM 6, NA West 5 and ASIA 5. Each region runs its own copy of a server, so the regional pairs add up: 42 pairs, or 84 servers, by the Matchmaking tables. Many names repeat across regions — Siel–Israphel is in all five — so those 42 pairs use only 18 distinct pairs of names.

The two official lists do not fully agree. The Launch Servers List shows six ASIA pairs, adding Ariel–Azphel, which would make 43 pairs and 86 servers. Until NC reconciles the two notices, treat 42 as the Matchmaking count, not a confirmed launch total, and check the ASIA list in the client.

Server Pair Table for Every Region

The table merges the Launch Server Matchmaking pairs with the server types from the Launch Servers List, where an asterisk marks Advanced Access servers. The type is per region: Vaizel–Triniel, for example, is an Advanced Access pair in Europe, NA East and ASIA but a launch pair in NA West and LATAM. Choose the region first, then read the type for that region.

Three names are spelled differently in NC’s own notices. Pair 11 is Tahavatha–Ludra in the Launch Servers List, Tahabata–Rudra in the Matchmaking notice on NC’s site and Tahavata–Ludra in the Steam copy of the same notice; pair 15 is Kasaka in the Server List and Kasika in Matchmaking. The table uses the Server List spelling — check the name in the client before you agree a server with friends.

What a Server Pair Means in the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts

Each Elyos server is paired with one Asmodian server for a limited time. In the Abyss or in Spacetime Rifts, the opposing-faction players you run into are drawn specifically from the Asmodian or Elyos server your server is matched with, not from the wider population of that faction. NC’s own example: if Israphel is paired with Siel, every Israphel Asmodian who enters the Abyss meets Siel’s Elyos.

Pairings are not permanent

NC has stated these pairings are not permanent and will be revised from time to time to keep the two factions balanced, so treat today’s table as a snapshot at launch rather than a fixed match-up. Check the notice again if your rivals matter to you.

Your pair is not your whole server experience

The pairing is described for the Abyss and other cross-faction modes, and for those modes only. The notice does not describe the pairing as affecting anything else.

Cross-Server Dungeons, Transfers and the Advanced Access Catch

All instanced content, including dungeons, is available cross-server, so a small server does not lock you out of dungeon content. NC has announced server transfers from 14 October between servers of the same faction, free at first (Information on Server Transfer).

Warning

When transfers open, Advanced Access characters (called Early Access in the transfer notice) may only transfer between Advanced Access servers, not to launch servers. Which servers are Advanced Access depends on the region — see the table above.

The announced transfer service does not offer faction changes, and the notices do not say whether it crosses regions. Choose your faction carefully: no other way to change it is confirmed in the cited notices. Until 14 October, which is nine days after the 5 October launch, a character stays on the server where it was created.

Which Server Should a New Player Pick?

These are our reading of the notices, not tested advice. Work through them in order:

  • Region: choose the region nearest to you, since NC’s confirmed locations are North America, South America, Europe and Japan and no ping values are published.
  • Faction: choose the faction you want to keep; one server is one faction, and the announced transfers stay inside it.
  • Friends: match Region + Faction + Server with your group — the same server names exist in several regions.
  • Launch or Advanced Access: check the server’s type for your region in the table. If you start on 5 October and are not joining friends on an Advanced Access server, a launch server avoids the Advanced Access transfer restriction.
  • Full server: if character creation on your pick is closed or the queue is long, agree a backup server in the same region and faction with your group before launch day.

What Does Not Carry Over, and What Is the Same Everywhere

Progress from the Taiwanese or Korean version does not carry over to the global version, so every global character starts at level 1 — the leveling options are on our AION 2 boosting page. Steam and PURPLE players share the same servers with identical content. Linking the two accounts is not needed to play, but it is needed to reach the same character on both platforms. Official support is limited to Windows PC via Steam and PURPLE (Launch FAQ).

Our Take: Pick the Faction First

Pick the region and faction with care; the server is the part the announced transfers can change.

Dungeons are cross-server and same-faction transfers are announced from 14 October, so the decisions that matter most are the faction — no way to change it is confirmed — and whether you start on an Advanced Access server. Choose your region by latency, your faction by taste, then match Region + Faction + Server with your friends, using the client’s spelling of the name.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose a server in AION 2 global?
You choose Region, then Faction, then a server in that region, and each server houses one faction. Check whether the server is an Advanced Access or a launch server for your region.
How many server pairs does each region have at launch?
The Launch Server Matchmaking notice lists Europe 18, NA East 8, LATAM 6, NA West 5 and ASIA 5 pairs. The Launch Servers List shows six for ASIA, adding Ariel–Azphel, so check the ASIA list in the client.
Which servers are Advanced Access servers?
Per the Launch Servers List: pairs 1–9 in Europe (Siel–Israphel to Hithanya–Nemon), 1–3 in NA East and ASIA (Siel, Nezekan, Vaizel), and 1–2 in NA West and LATAM (Siel, Nezekan). The rest are launch servers.
Can I change server or faction after launch?
NC has announced same-faction transfers from 14 October, initially free; Advanced Access characters can move only between Advanced Access servers. The announced transfer service does not offer faction changes, and no other way to change faction is confirmed in the cited notices.
Will a small server lock me out of dungeons?
No. All instanced content including dungeons is available cross-server.
Does my Korean or Taiwanese progress carry over?
No, progress between the KR/TW versions and the global version does not carry over. Steam and PURPLE players share the same servers.
