Ubisoft has officially confirmed that The Division 2 will continue into Year 9. Its Gamescom 2026 announcements also covered crossplay, planned Year 8 Season 4 system changes, the winter survival expansion Survivors, and the Elite Task Force community program.

These announcements are part of the wider roadmap, but Ubisoft has not said that every feature discussed at Gamescom belongs to Year 9. As of September 2, 2026, the studio says it is still too early to reveal exactly what Year 9 will contain.

Key details

  • Year 9 is confirmed, with more information planned for a future Division Day event in March.
  • Crossplay is scheduled for November 2026, although Ubisoft has not announced an exact release date.
  • Crossplay will be enabled by default, clans will support up to 100 members, and leaderboards will be reset.
  • Year 8 Season 4 will rework Prototype Gear and related systems to reduce their reliance on RNG.
  • Survivors will offer PvE or PvP-enabled sessions in a winter version of Washington, D.C.; it does not have a release date.
  • The 2026 Elite Task Force application window closed on August 31, while separate Survivors test sign-ups are due later in 2026.

Year 9 is confirmed, but its contents remain unannounced

Ubisoft confirmed Year 9 during its second Gamescom panel on August 27. The official announcement says development will continue building on the work started during Year 8, but it does not identify Year 9’s seasons, modes, rewards, or release schedule.

More Year 9 information is planned for Division Day in March. Ubisoft did not provide an exact date for that event, so it should not be confused with the Echoes of Central Park showcase scheduled for September 24, 2026.

How crossplay will work in November 2026

Crossplay featureConfirmed behavior
Release windowNovember 2026; no exact date announced
Default settingEnabled
Opting outAvailable from the Character Selection screen
MatchmakingEnabled players can encounter other enabled players on supported platforms
ClansExisting clans migrate and can include members from different platforms
Clan capacityIncreases from 50 to 100 members
LeaderboardsReset when crossplay is introduced

Crossplay is scheduled to arrive in November 2026. Ubisoft says adding it required the team to partially rebuild the game’s online architecture, and the feature is intended to expand matchmaking across supported platforms.

When the update arrives, all players will be moved to the crossplay environment and the feature will be enabled by default. Players who want a platform-only pool will be able to disable it from the Character Selection screen.

What the reset affects

Ubisoft has announced a leaderboard reset, not a character wipe. It has not announced the removal of character levels, inventories, SHD progression, or owned equipment as part of the crossplay transition.

Ubisoft has confirmed crossplay only. It has not announced cross-progression, account merging, shared progression, or character transfers between platforms.

The studio also says leaderboard displays will reflect players’ crossplay settings. Further implementation details are due closer to launch.

Season 4 will reduce reliance on RNG

SistemaWhat Ubisoft has confirmedWhat remains unknown
Prototype GearMore control over progression and customizationExact tuning options and costs
Expertise and AugmentsBoth will be touched by the reworkSpecific mechanical changes
EscalationsMore control over challenge and rewardsAvailable settings and reward scaling
MutatorsPlanned to become more consistent and predictableHow selection or rotation will work

Ubisoft’s first Gamescom panel included an early preview of Year 8 Season 4. The headline change is a Prototype Gear rework intended to give players more control over item progression and customization.

The changes will involve Prototype Gear, Expertise, and Augments. Ubisoft also plans to add more ways to fine-tune Prototype Gear, but it has not published conversion rules, costs, stat limits, or drop-rate changes.

Season 3, Red Horizon, also prevents Escalation tokens from being lost after a disconnect. Season 4 is expected to extend the wider push toward more controllable Escalation challenges and rewards.

This is not confirmation that Season 4 will eliminate RNG. Until complete patch notes are available, there is also not enough information to determine how existing Prototype Gear will be converted or whether players should change their current upgrade plans.

Survivors turns Washington, D.C. into a winter survival zone

Survivors featureConfirmed effect
Session rulesChoice of PvE or PvP-enabled play
SnowShows tracks and can slow movement when deep enough
TemperatureHeat sources help players navigate colder conditions
NightLower temperatures but reduced enemy detection range
World variationChanging weather and time of day
ReplayabilityRandomized loot locations and dynamically shifting paths and extraction points

The Division 2: Survivors is an expansion inspired by Survival from the original game, but Ubisoft says it is being designed as a distinct experience rather than a direct recreation.

Players will be able to choose between PvE and PvP-enabled sessions. Ubisoft also wants to offer greater control over each session’s length and difficulty instead of making every run follow the same structure.

The new snow system will affect movement as well as the appearance of Washington, D.C. Agents will leave tracks, and sufficiently deep snow will slow them down. Temperature will also matter: players will need to find heat sources, while nighttime will bring lower temperatures and reduced enemy detection range.

Survivors does not currently have a release date. Ubisoft says registration for closed tests will open later in 2026, with additional instructions to be announced.

What is the Elite Task Force?

The Elite Task Force, usually shortened to ETF, is an insider feedback program first established during the original The Division. It allows the development team to consult selected community members early, sometimes before planned features have been implemented.

Ubisoft said it was seeking players from different backgrounds and experience levels who could provide critical, constructive feedback. ETF members selected through the 2026 intake will receive guaranteed access to the upcoming Survivors closed test.

Applications have closed

The Gamescom application window ended on August 31, 2026, at 9 AM CEST / 12 AM PT. That ETF intake is separate from the wider Survivors closed-test registration Ubisoft plans to open later in 2026.

Echoes of Central Park gameplay is next

Ubisoft’s next dated presentation is the Echoes of Central Park showcase on September 24, 2026, at 9 AM PT / 6 PM CEST. The event will include the expansion’s first gameplay.

Echoes of Central Park begins with a distress call from inside the park, which served as a mass burial ground during the outbreak. Agents will investigate reports spreading through the Upper West Side before entering Central Park. Ubisoft has described the expansion as darker in tone, but has not yet announced its release date.

Division Day will follow in March with more information about Year 9 and the future of The Division 2. Its exact date and program have not been revealed.
