For Phantom Blade Zero’s true-ending route, complete Secrets at the Heart of the Lake and Bloodline Awakening before the finale. The practical challenge is keeping their prerequisite Tales open while advancing the story. This guide separates the early cleanup checkpoint from the final commitment, so you can check your journal without reading a plot summary.
Spoiler level: quest names, regions and late-game checkpoint names appear below. The final story revelation is omitted. Checked 4 November 2026; the route is cross-checked against published guides, not a Neonsect-tested playthrough.

True ending requirements at a glance
| Checkpoint | What to check | What can wait |
|---|---|---|
| Before entering Mirage Estate | Clear the purple Tales listed below; keep a separate manual save. | The fifth Long Pillar encounter is inside the estate. |
| Inside Mirage Estate | Finish Bloodline Awakening, including the last Gold-Masked One encounter. | Do not judge completion by entering the area alone. |
| Before The Last Chance bell | Both ending chains must be complete; finish remaining route cleanup. | The warning itself does not mean you failed a requirement. |
Use Mirage Estate as your conservative cleanup checkpoint. PowerPyx recommends finishing the purple Tales before entry; PC Gamer reports uncertainty about that cutoff, while TH.GL’s community game-data guide places the ending checks later, in A Soul’s Worth. These sources do not establish that every unfinished quest fails at the same door. Preparing early avoids relying on that disputed boundary.

Purple Tales to clear before Mirage Estate
Track these quest names in your journal while following the main story. Several feed into each other; this is a cleanup list, not a claim that they must be completed in the order shown.
| Route preparation | Tales to check |
|---|---|
| Valley and early exploration | Deep in the Valley; Illusion of Inanis; Sha-Chi Powered Boat |
| Illusions and access | Allure of Vanity; Illusory Pipa; Pillars of Kunlun |
| Lake-chain prerequisites | Whence the Weeping; The Herald’s Illusion; Crimson Manor |
| Lake-chain conclusion | Secrets at the Heart of the Lake |
The list follows PowerPyx’s true-ending checklist. A completed prerequisite does not replace the lake quest’s final objective. Read each journal entry after the hand-in rather than assuming a boss kill closed the entire chain.
Secrets at the Heart of the Lake: masks and puppet eyes
The lake route begins with the Firefly Memory Flower in the Village of Lu. PC Gamer’s walkthrough identifies four Acolyte Masks spread across the following areas:
| Mask holder | Area / access clue |
|---|---|
| Yanru | Village of Lu |
| Lei Ting | Pangzhen; the Flaming Mane opens the blocked route near Pond of Fading Song |
| Guhe | Meigu Lake’s eastern island / dock route |
| Hansui | Crimson Manor, reached through the connected side-quest chain |
You also need both Crystal Puppet Eyes: Yin and Yang. KeenGamer’s route places Yin on the Mountain of Imprisonment path opened through the repaired Illusory Pipa, and Yang in the Crimson Manor sequence. If a barrier blocks you, return to the relevant prerequisite Tale instead of continuing the main story in the hope it opens automatically.

With the masks, follow the western Meigu Lake mirror route into the Phantom Illusionist Ruins. Continue beyond the encounter there: insert both eyes into the puppet statue and complete the ritual sequence. Before leaving, check that Secrets at the Heart of the Lake is completed, not merely available or active.
Keep a written checklist: four masks, two eyes, ritual finished, quest marked complete. An inventory full of related items is easier to misread than the final journal state.
Bloodline Awakening: all five Long Pillars
Bloodline Awakening follows the recurring Gold-Masked One encounters. PowerPyx’s trophy roadmap describes a fixed encounter sequence even when you visit accessible pillar locations in a different order. Use the following as a regional sweep, not a prescribed speedrun order.
| Long Pillar | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Weeping Creek Valley | Check the Sha-Chi Tower / Hunt’s Scythes access route |
| Crimson Forest | Search the Mirrorwood area |
| Eastern Meigu Lake | Visit the eastern island |
| Phantom Illusionist Ruins | Follow the lake mirror-realm route |
| Mirage Estate | The late encounter near Willow Pavilion, inside the estate |

Do not try to finish all five pillars before entering Mirage Estate. Prepare the earlier encounters first, then complete the estate encounter during the story. After the last fight, finish the associated interaction and check Bloodline Awakening in the journal before advancing toward the finale.
Blade Masters, Quick Hand and uncertain requirements
Check Zhu Yuan and Commander Bi Feng. PowerPyx lists both Blade Master encounters as required for the true-ending route. Include them in your pre-finale sweep; do not confuse unrelated trophy cleanup with this specific pair.
Quick Hand’s Requests are recommended cleanup, with a qualification. KeenGamer includes them in its route, but PC Gamer presents their necessity as uncertain, and TH.GL’s extracted-data checklist identifies the lake and Bloodline quests as the two ending flags. Complete the requests if you want the conservative route and their separate reward; this guide does not label them a proven independent ending requirement.
If a prerequisite has already failed, keep your current save and inspect an earlier manual save before overwriting anything. A different ending guide cannot repair a quest flag that your current journal has already closed.

The final five checks before The Last Chance
Make this your final journal and save check before committing to the last sequence.
-
1
Preserve a separate save
Keep an identifiable manual save outside the final sequence. Do not overwrite your earlier pre-estate fallback.
-
2
Confirm the lake quest is complete
Open Secrets at the Heart of the Lake and verify the completed state after the ritual, not just possession of its quest items.
-
3
Confirm the Bloodline quest is complete
Check Bloodline Awakening after the Mirage Estate encounter and its follow-up interaction.
-
4
Review the remaining route cleanup
Check the two Blade Masters and any requests you intend to finish. Resolve open entries before moving on.

Commit at The Last Chance bell
Read the warning, then proceed only when your checklist is clear. Expect to remain in the final sequence until its ending.
The Mount Soulrend bell warning is a commitment warning, not a diagnostic for missing quests. PowerPyx notes that it appears even with the requirements complete. Its guide associates the extra concluding encounter with the With Heart and Blood trophy. Quest completion before the finale matters more than guessing your route from the warning text.
After the ending: cleanup and New Game Plus
PowerPyx’s roadmap reports post-ending free roam before New Game Plus. Treat this as an opportunity to collect what remains available, not a promise that failed Tales reopen. Check what the game actually lets you resume before starting another cycle.
For an ending-focused run, keep three notes beside your saves: the current chapter, the state of the two ending quests and which late-game warning you have passed. This makes a fallback save useful instead of leaving several indistinguishable files. Do not start New Game Plus just to test whether an old prerequisite can still be finished in the current run.
Verdict: prepare early, verify the journal late
The safest plan is to clear the connected purple Tales before Mirage Estate, finish the fifth Long Pillar inside it, then verify both ending chains before The Last Chance. The estate entrance and the final bell serve different purposes. Keeping that distinction clear prevents the most damaging mistake: assuming every requirement must be finished before you can enter the estate.
