Stygian Onslaught is a recurring three-battle combat challenge in Genshin Impact. Unlock it at Adventure Rank 20 after Archon Quest Prologue: Act III, “Song of the Dragon and Freedom.” Start at Hard if your roster can handle it: one clear also claims the lower tiers’ rewards. Fearless and Dire can be played in co-op, but their own tier rewards require a single-player clear.
This guide separates difficulty rewards from the time-limited Disturbance Outbreak, explains the Resin and Dire Prestige costs, and helps you decide where to stop. Current-cycle check, 31 October 2026: the announced cycle ends on 3 November at 03:59; its Outbreak ended on 10 October at 03:59. Those cycle dates do not mean the permanent mode is being removed.
En resumen
- Unlock: AR 20 and Prologue Act III. “Perilous Trail” is recommended, not an additional stated gate.
- Normal, Advancing and Hard are available without clearing each lower tier. Hard unlocks Menacing, then Fearless; clear Fearless solo to unlock Dire.
- The reward table lists 450 Primogems across Normal, Advancing and Hard. A Hard clear collects all three reward tiers; six separate clears are not required.
- At AR 45+, Hard or higher allows Artifact claims only during the first ten-day Outbreak. Original Resin claims give 20 or 40 Prestige; Condensed, Fragile or Transient Resin gives 60.
- Fearless and Dire tier rewards require solo clears. Dire’s weapon appearances are temporary, lasting until the next Stygian Onslaught event.
Stygian Onslaught Clear
Fearless and Dire only pay out on single-player clears. Get the difficulty you pick cleared on your roster for that tier's rewards.
What Is Stygian Onslaught in Genshin Impact?
Each challenge contains three timed battles on separate Battlefields. Select the difficulty before entering and defeat all opponents across the three battles to complete the challenge. Higher difficulties add stronger enemies and stricter restrictions.
Stygian Onslaught is a permanent mode with rotating cycles, not an always-open Resin farm. A cycle lasts about five weeks; use the dates in that cycle’s notice rather than assuming it ends on patch day. The official current-cycle notice lists 30 September 2026 at 10:00 to 3 November 2026 at 03:59. HoYoWiki labels this schedule as server time; the official notice itself does not state a time zone. Check the in-game countdown for your server.
| Dificultad | Unlocked by | Co-op | Reward claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal, Advancing, Hard | Available once the mode is unlocked | Solo, matchmaking or same-world co-op | Solo or co-op |
| Menacing | Clear Hard | Same world only | Solo or co-op |
| Fearless | Clear Menacing within its time limit | Same world only | Single-player clear only |
| Dire | Clear Fearless solo within its time limit | Same world only | Solo for rewards; Exalted buffs inactive |

How to Unlock and Enter Stygian Onslaught
The official eligibility rules are AR 20 and completion of Prologue: Act III, “Song of the Dragon and Freedom.” Completing “Perilous Trail” is a recommendation for the best experience. Use the event’s in-game navigation to reach the challenge; the cited notice does not document a universal menu shortcut. Our Archon Quest order and AR requirements guide covers the story sequence.
Choose your target first. For the Primogem reward track, start at Hard rather than repeating Normal and Advancing. For Dust of Enlightenment, progress into Menacing and a solo Fearless clear. For the temporary weapon appearance, aim at solo Dire. The separate Artifact farming loop needs AR 45 and an active Outbreak; merely unlocking the mode at AR 20 does not unlock that loop.
The linked paid service starts at $4.49 for Normal–Hard; the configurator lists $8.09 through Fearless and $10.79 for Dire before optional priority. It is played on your own roster with account access, not a co-op carry that bypasses the solo reward rule. A standard Dire clear is not a promise of the separate 180-second Sublimation objective.
| Conseguir | Qué incluye | Requirement | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Difficulty ladder clears | Per-tier rewards | AR 20, Act III done | Anyone who has unlocked it |
| Outbreak Resin claims | Domain of Blessing rewards | AR 45+, Hard or above | Artifact farmers |
| Dire Prestige milestones | Extra Artifacts, Dust of Enlightenment | Resin claims in the Outbreak | Players spending Resin there |
Step-by-Step: Unlock and Clear Your First Challenge
-
1
Reach Adventure Rank 20
This unlocks the difficulty challenge. Artifact reward claims have a separate AR 45 requirement.
-
2
Finish the prologue quest
Complete Prologue: Act III "Song of the Dragon and Freedom." "Perilous Trail" is recommended, not an additional stated unlock requirement.
-
3
Start at the right difficulty
Choose Hard if your roster can clear it; Normal and Advancing do not have to be cleared first. Choose a lower difficulty if you need practice.
-
4
Beat all three battles
Defeat every opponent across the three timed Battlefields. From Menacing upward, plan non-overlapping character lineups.
-
5
Climb the ladder
Hard unlocks Menacing, then Fearless. Clear Fearless in single-player to unlock Dire. Higher clears include lower-tier rewards; Fearless and Dire tier rewards require solo clears.
Solo vs Co-op: Which Mode Fits Each Difficulty
All six difficulties allow co-op with up to four players. Normal, Advancing and Hard offer matchmaking or same-world co-op. Menacing, Fearless and Dire require joining the same world; there is no matchmaking for those tiers.
Reward restriction
You can practice Fearless and Dire with friends, but those tiers’ own rewards require a single-player clear. Dire is unlocked through a solo Fearless clear. Co-op availability is not the same as reward eligibility.
HoYoWiki’s difficulty table allows character reuse through Hard and prohibits it from Menacing upward. In solo play, reserve separate lineups for all three Battlefields: a full four-character team in each uses twelve distinct characters. You do not have to fill every slot, so twelve is a full-team planning target, not a universal entry requirement.
Before entering, match elemental application and survivability to each boss’s current mechanics. Allocate contested supports before assigning all three teams. HoYoWiki also warns that moving shared weapons or Artifacts between characters assigned to different Battlefields can reset the affected record; finish the allocation before chasing a combined clear time.
| You want | Condition | Modo | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear Normal to Hard | Any of the three tiers | Solo, matchmaking, same world | Up to 4 players |
| Clear Menacing | Hard cleared within its time limit | Solo or same-world co-op | No matchmaking |
| Claim Fearless rewards | Menacing cleared first | Single-player clear | Reward claim is solo only |
| Claim Dire rewards | Fearless cleared solo within its time limit | Single-player clear | Reward claim is solo only |
How Exalted Ones Work and Why Dire Ignores Them
Up to 16 characters can be Exalted Ones at a time, and the pool can change. On Fearless and below, their Eminent Boon can help your lineup; on Dire, that boon is inactive.
HoYoWiki describes the boon as +20% Max HP, ATK and DEF and says the pool is selected from server-wide Eminence earned with characters in Dire clears and its Perilous Objective. This is not a universal ranking of the best teams, a free character loan, or a reason to ignore the three bosses’ mechanics. The official cycle notice confirms the changing pool and Dire exception; the numeric boon and selection detail are wiki-documented rather than client-tested here.
Disturbance Outbreak, Resin and Dire Prestige

During the first ten-day Disturbance Outbreak, players at AR 45 or above can complete Hard or higher and spend Resin for rewards from a selected Domain of Blessing while earning Dire Prestige. Choose the Domain through Reward Settings before farming; in co-op the leader controls the Domain choice. These are Artifact rewards, not Talent or Weapon Ascension Materials.
Current cycle: the official notice lists the challenge through 3 November 2026 at 03:59 and the Outbreak only through 10 October at 03:59. As of 31 October, the Outbreak is closed. Difficulty challenges remain available until the cycle ends, but the special Resin reward claim is unavailable after the Outbreak. Ordinary Domain runs remain a separate way to farm Artifacts.
| Claim option | Domain reward multiplier | Dire Prestige per claim |
|---|---|---|
| 20 Original Resin | 1× | 20 |
| 40 Original Resin | 2× | 40 |
| 1 Condensed Resin | 3× | 60 |
| 1 Fragile or Transient Resin | 3× | 60 |
The live HoYoWiki table lists these claim options. The official Luna I update independently confirms that crafting Condensed Resin costs 60 Original Resin and that it claims triple rewards. Do not use the old 40-Prestige Condensed Resin calculation.
Every 120 Dire Prestige awards an additional random five-star Artifact from the selected Domain’s two sets. The 1,200 milestone grants one Dust of Enlightenment per cycle. The bonus Artifact is repeatable: 1,200 is the Dust threshold, not a cap on further Artifact bonuses.
Budget: from zero Prestige, the 1,200 milestone takes 60 claims of 20, 30 claims of 40, or 20 claims of 60, or a mixture. Twenty Condensed Resin claims represent 1,200 Original Resin spent on crafting, not free rewards. You cross the 120-point Artifact milestone ten times on the way. Count reward claims separately from the three-battle difficulty challenge; neither the Resin conversion nor the ladder proves a fixed completion time.
No mandatory eighteen-battle route: clearing Hard once covers Normal and Advancing rewards. If you then progress through Menacing, Fearless and Dire, that is four three-battle challenges, or twelve battles before retries. If you only want the lower-tier Primogems, stop after the Hard clear. See our Resin guide for related farming concepts; the current conversion table above takes precedence over older values.
Domain Runs
The Outbreak's Resin-for-Artifact window closes fast. Have your chosen Domains run on your account for Artifacts, Talents or Weapons instead.
Stygian Onslaught Rewards and What You Unlock
The current official event notice confirms the reward rules but its reward image contains item icons, not a numerical per-difficulty table. The amounts below are documented in the live HoYoWiki Stygian Onslaught entry; they have not been independently checked in the game client.
Separate clear rewards from the Outbreak milestone
The listed Normal, Advancing and Hard rewards total 450 Primogems. Across the five resource-paying tiers through Fearless, the table adds up to 500,000 Mora and 25 Hero’s Wit. Menacing and solo Fearless supply two Dust of Enlightenment in total; the third Dust requires the separate 1,200-Prestige Outbreak milestone. You cannot earn that third Dust through a late difficulty clear after the Outbreak closes.
Higher clears include lower-tier rewards
A Hard clear also meets the Normal and Advancing reward conditions. You do not need to clear all six difficulties separately. Fearless and Dire retain their single-player reward conditions even though co-op is available.
Dire appearances expire
A solo Dire clear unlocks the Radiant Phantasm weapon appearance reward. Completing the entire three-Battlefield solo challenge within 180 seconds unlocks the Sublimation version; 180 seconds is not a separate allowance for each boss. HoYoWiki labels these appearances as limited-time, lasting until the next version’s Stygian Onslaught event. They are cosmetic and should not be described as permanent weapon acquisitions.
| Reward | How you get it | Data class |
|---|---|---|
| 150 Primogems, 100,000 Mora, 5 Hero's Wit each | Normal, Advancing and Hard: 150 Primogems each; a Hard clear covers all three | HoYoWiki; not client-tested |
| 1 Dust of Enlightenment each, plus Mora and Hero's Wit | Menacing and single-player Fearless | HoYoWiki; not client-tested |
| Temporary Radiant Phantasm appearance | Dire single-player clear | HoYoWiki; expires at next Stygian event |
| Temporary Sublimation appearance | Entire three-Battlefield Dire solo challenge within 180 seconds | HoYoWiki; same expiry rule |
| Extra 5-star Artifact | Every 120 Dire Prestige | HoYoWiki |
| Dust of Enlightenment | 1,200 Dire Prestige, once per reset | HoYoWiki |
Rules People Get Wrong: Co-op Carries, Dire Buffs, Late Resin

Co-op access does not grant solo-only rewards
Fearless and Dire support same-world co-op, but those tiers’ own rewards require a single-player clear. This restriction is stated in the official event notice, not merely inferred from a community guide.
Exalted buffs stop at Dire
The Eminent Boon can help on Fearless and below. It is inactive on Dire; choose a roster that works without that bonus.
The Outbreak ends before the challenge cycle
After the Outbreak, the special Resin claim is unavailable. This does not mean that all Artifact farming stops: ordinary Domains remain separate. Nor does a normal Domain run award the closed Outbreak’s Prestige milestone.
A higher clear avoids unnecessary lower clears
Start at Hard for the three Primogem tiers if you can complete it. Treat Menacing and solo Fearless as the next material goals; Dire is an optional temporary cosmetic goal, with the 180-second objective separate from a standard clear.
Our Take: Is Stygian Onslaught Worth Doing?
Aim for Hard for the Primogem track; add Menacing and solo Fearless if your roster can handle them. Treat Dire as an optional temporary cosmetic challenge.
During an active Outbreak, AR 45+ Artifact farmers can also work toward the separate 1,200-Prestige Dust milestone. As of 31 October 2026, that window is closed for the current cycle, even though difficulty rewards remain available until 3 November at 03:59.
El HoYoverse press release published through Games Press confirms Version 7.2 for 4 November. It does not announce the next Stygian start. An 11 November start is a calendar expectation, not a confirmed date in that release; check the next official event notice before planning Resin spending. See the Hour of Ruin guide for the update overview.
