There is no single best weapon in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 after Patch 14 — every pick only earns its tier in combination with a specific class and a specific difficulty, and that pairing is the whole point of this breakdown. Patch 14, the Confrontation Update, is the patch that closed out Year 2, and it quietly moved several go-to loadouts up or down without a full damage-number rework. This guide sorts weapons by what they actually beat — swarms, elite Majoris, and Terminus-class threats like the new Thousand Sons Sorcerer — and flags which ones survive the jump from Ruthless to Absolute and which ones don’t.

En resumen

  • There is no universal best weapon: role only makes sense once you fix both the class and the difficulty, since a loadout that carries Ruthless can fold on Absolute.
  • Swarm control (Heavy Bolter, Pyrecannon), elite/armor burst (Melta Rifle, Multi-Melta) and precision anti-Terminus tools (Stalker Bolt Rifle) barely overlap.
  • Patch 14’s PvE changes are small and printed: Heroic Bolt Pistol +15% damage, Pyrecannon +15% range, Secondary Bolt Carbine +2 magazines of reserve, Ultima Ratio time-to-max-bonus cut 35%, Salamanders Melta Rifle +10%. The Ground Pound and Chainsword radius cuts are Eternal War (PvP) only and change nothing in Operations.
  • Six new Heroic weapons unlock through Accolades: Thunder Hammer, Power Fist, Bolt Carbine, Melta Rifle, Power Sword, and Stalker Bolt Rifle.
  • Patch 15 (1 October 2026) raised base damage on most primaries, gave the Melta Rifle +65% at point-blank range, and added the One-Handed Thunder Hammer; Hotfix 15.1 (8 October) buffed the hammer and eased the Melta’s fall-off. Still not in the game: the Greatsword (Year 3) and the Absolvor Bolt Pistol.

What Determines the Best Weapon in Space Marine 2 After Patch 14?

Every serious tier list for this game has to answer one question before it ranks anything: best for what. A weapon that trivializes Ruthless because it one-shots Majoris enemies can be a liability on Absolute, where incoming damage is heavier and mistakes get punished faster than a slow reload can recover from. That is why generic “best weapon” lists tend to age badly — they rank in a vacuum instead of against a class and a difficulty band at the same time.

DificultadWhat actually changesWeapon implication
Minimal – SubstantialEnemy density rises, but mistakes are forgivingMost weapons perform close to their raw stats — this is where stat-stick purples shine
RuthlessBigger Terminus and Extremis presence, tighter timing windowsPerk-dependent Heroic weapons start pulling ahead of plain stat weapons
AbsoluteHighest incoming damage and enemy pressure, least room for setupWeapons whose perks need sustained uptime (headshots, melee kill chains) become unreliable unless the whole squad plays around them

This list ranks weapons, not classes; which class to take into Ruthless and Absolute is covered in the Space Marine 2 class tier list.

If the hours are the obstacle rather than the fight itself, Boosting de Space Marine 2 is run hands-on by a booster from your region.

Best Weapons Against Swarms, Elite Enemies, and Terminus Threats

Split the roster by target type and the picture gets a lot less muddy than a flat A-to-F list. Chaff swarms, armored Majoris “elite” targets, and Terminus-class bosses like the Carnifex, Neurothrope, Helbrute, and now the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer all demand different tools, and very few weapons are good at all three at once.

How to Build an Absolute-Ready Loadout After Patch 14

Advertencia

Do not chase a Heroic weapon purely because a patch buffed its numbers. If the perk needs headshot chains or melee kill streaks and Absolute’s enemy density will not let you land that setup consistently, a well-rolled Relic or purple with straightforward stats will usually outperform it.

Sigue estos pasos para hacerlo rápidamente.

  1. 1

    Pick your class role first

anchor the weapon choice in whether that class is supposed to answer swarms or burst down elites, rather than picking a gun you like and hoping the class fits it. The class leveling guide breaks down which roles each class actually covers.

  2. 2

Cover swarms in the slot your class has for it

Heavy: Heavy Bolter or Pyrecannon. Tactical: Auto Bolt Rifle or the Bolt Rifle with grenade launcher. Vanguard: Occulus Bolt Carbine. Bulwark and Assault have no primary — their swarm answer is the melee weapon and the squad’s Heavy.

  3. 3

Reserve one slot for elite burst

A Melta Rifle (Tactical or Vanguard primary), a Multi-Melta (Heavy primary), a Power Sword (Bulwark melee) or a Thunder Hammer (Assault melee) covers the stagger and burst window the rest of the kit cannot. Heavy has no melee slot; Bulwark and Assault have no primary — pick the burst tool that exists for your class.

  4. 4

Match perk uptime to the difficulty, not the weapon's raw

a Heroic weapon that needs sustained headshots or melee kill-chains to shine is a liability the moment Absolute's enemy density stops you from setting it up.

  5. 5

Test on Ruthless before trusting it on Absolute

a loadout that feels smooth at Ruthless density can fall apart the instant Terminus-class adds show up in the same encounter.

  6. 6

    Rebuild after every major patch

Patch 14 already reshuffled a handful of weapons, so treat any tier claim as tied to a patch number, not a fixed truth. The Patch 14 weapons guide tracks exactly what moved.

What Patch 14 Changed for Weapon Balance

Patch 14 is described as the smaller of the two big Year 2 updates content-wise, and its PvE weapon changes are few and printed. The notes list five PvE lines: Heroic Bolt Pistol damage +15%, Secondary Bolt Carbine max ammo +2 magazines, Pyrecannon range +15% in both stances, the Omnissian Axe’s “Explosive Strike” energy explosion with the Heroic Ultima Ratio reaching its maximum bonus 35% sooner, and buffs to the six new Heroic weapons after the test server (Salamanders Power Sword stacks, Combi-Flamer Bolt Carbine +20% bolter damage, Deathwatch Stalker scan trigger 5→4 body shots, Salamanders Melta Rifle +10%, Deathwatch Power Fist melta blast, Lord Executioner’s Axe contested-health fix). Hotfix 14.1 on 11 August moved four of the Heroics again (Deathwatch Stalker 4→3 body shots and a 10 m scan radius, Combi-Flamer +10% bolter and crate refills, Combi-Melta crate refills, Deathwatch Power Fist single-charge melta blast).

Patch 14 numeric buffs by weapon (PvE)

Ultima Ratio time to max bonus−35%
Heroic Bolt Pistol damage+15%
Pyrecannon range+15%
Salamanders Melta Rifle damage+10%

The nerfs people quote are Eternal War changes and do not apply to Operations or Siege. In PvP the Assault Ground Pound radii were cut (Chainsword inner 2→1.5 and outer 4→3, Thunder Hammer 2.5→2 and 5→3.5, Power Fist and Power Axe 2→1.5 and 4→3, Power Sword 2.5→2 and 5→3.5), the Assault ability cooldown went 12→16 s, and a Krak Grenade now always destroys the Heavy’s Iron Halo. None of that touches a PvE cleave combo; if a melee kit feels different on Ruthless after Patch 14, the cause is elsewhere.

ArmaPatch 14 change (PvE)What it means
Heroic Bolt PistolDamage +15%Answers the weak per-bullet damage of the Heroic variant
Secondary Bolt CarbineMax ammo +2 magazinesMore reserve before you need a crate; magazine size and reloads are unchanged
PyrecannonRange +15% in both stancesExtends the swarm-clearing window before enemies close distance
Ultima Ratio (Heroic Omnissian Axe)Time to reach maximum bonus damage cut by 35%; Explosive Strike now creates an energy explosionThe Techmarine’s Heroic axe ramps up in a normal fight instead of a long one
Salamanders Power Sword (Heroic)Max stacks 5→6, stacks per perfect parry 1→3A parry-stack buff, not lifesteal: the sword rewards perfect parries, and gets there three times faster
Salamanders Melta Rifle (Heroic)Damage +10%, fall-off range extendedLess punishing melee-range requirement against Terminus adds
Deathwatch Stalker Bolt Rifle (Heroic)Body shots to trigger the auspex scan 5→4 (14.0), 4→3 (14.1); scan radius 8→10 m; higher headshot multiplierThe perk is body shots first, then headshots — not a headshot chain

What Patch 15 and Hotfix 15.1 Changed for Weapons

Saber explains the reason in the Patch 15.0 notes (1 October 2026): weapons had been balanced around the Auspex Scan’s team-wide damage boost, so with the scan weakened, “we are increasing base damage for almost all primary weapons to compensate”.

Primaries: base damage up

  • Auto Bolt Rifle and Occulus Bolt Carbine +15%; Bolt Rifle, Plasma Incinerator (common shot), Pyreblaster, Pyrecannon and the one-handed Bolt Carbine +10%; Bolt Carbine and Instigator Bolt Carbine +7.5%; Heavy Bolt Rifle (not the Heroic grenade-launcher version) and Heavy Bolter +5%.

Melta: deadly at point blank

Patch 15 gave the Melta Rifle +65% base damage and the Heavy Melta Rifle +60%, in return for a much shorter range and less ammo (Melta Rifle 15 → 10, Heavy Melta 20 → 16), and the change covers the Heroic versions too. Hotfix 15.1 (8 October) eased it a little: fall-off now starts at 3 m instead of 2 m on the standard versions, and the Melta Rifle carries 12 rounds with a 6-round magazine.

Melee: the One-Handed Thunder Hammer

Patch 15 added the One-Handed Thunder Hammer for Tactical, Assault, Bulwark and Techmarine, let Tactical take a Power Sword, Power Axe or the new hammer in place of its primary, and gave Techmarine the Two-Handed Thunder Hammer. Hotfix 15.1 then buffed the one-handed hammer: base damage +10%, charged attacks +25%, Energised Strike +100% with a 50% larger radius, Echoing Swing waves +100%, Underhand Swing +67%. It also temporarily removed the forced stagger from charging stances; Saber says it returns in the next patch.

New Heroic weapons

Three more unlock through Accolades: the Frost Axe (Power Axe), the Power Maul (One-Handed Thunder Hammer; its damage bonus per charge is 30% after 15.1) and the Iron Hands Auto Bolt Rifle.

Our reading: the tier rows above were set for Patch 14. The Patch 15 buffs favour the Auto Bolt Rifle and Occulus Bolt Carbine among primaries, and the Melta Rifle is now a point-blank tool. We have not re-rated the hammer yet.

Heroic Weapons Unlocked in Patch 14

The six Heroic weapons added this patch are cosmetic-and-perk variants of existing guns and melee, unlockable through Accolades rather than random drops. Added 6 Heroic Weapons (Thunder Hammer, Power Fist, Bolt Carbine, Melta Rifle, Power Sword, Stalker Bolt Rifle) to unlock with Accolades. They arrive alongside heroic armour pieces, including a Salamanders-themed power sword and melta-mounted power fist and a Deathwatch-pattern rifle. Six new Heroic weapons will be available for dedicated warriors who have maxed out their regular counterparts, including a blazing orange Salamanders power sword, a power fist mounting a meltagun, and a Deathwatch-pattern stalker bolt rifle.

Perk-dependent Heroic weapons

Each Heroic is a variant of a base weapon and goes where that weapon goes — the Deathwatch Stalker to Tactical or Sniper, the Salamanders Melta Rifle to Tactical or Vanguard, the Salamanders Power Sword to Bulwark, the Deathwatch Power Fist to Assault or Bulwark. The Stalker, Power Sword and Melta Rifle Heroic variants only outperform a plain purple or Relic when you actually play around their perk. If you do not play around the perk — landing the body shots that trigger the Deathwatch Stalker’s scan, stringing perfect parries for the Salamanders Power Sword’s stacks, or staying in melta range for the Salamanders Melta Rifle bonus — the Heroic variant will often underperform a well-rolled purple or relic weapon with straightforward stat buffs. That is a fair trade for a coordinated squad on Ruthless, and a real risk on Absolute if the fight never gives you the setup window.

Why the Heroic system matters beyond flex value

The Heroic weapon system successfully addresses one of Space Marine 2’s longstanding criticisms—that endgame builds felt samey—by introducing perks that reward specialization and synergy. Players who enjoy theorycrafting will find real depth in pairing Heroic gear with class abilities and secondary weapons, and the Accolade grind gives long-term players a concrete chase goal beyond cosmetics. That’s a genuine improvement over Year 1, even if it means the tier list now has to account for build discipline, not just raw stats.

Year 3 Weapons Still to Come: Greatsword and Absolvor Bolt Pistol

Note

Nothing below this line is playable yet. Treat it as a preview for planning purposes, not a recommendation.

Patch 15 (1 October 2026) delivered the One-Handed Thunder Hammer and Tactical’s melee options, covered above. The Greatsword is confirmed for Year 3 in the same update — “yes, you’ll have your Greatsword in Year 3” — after an earlier plan had put the one-handed hammer ahead of it. The Absolvor Bolt Pistol is tied to a new class the roadmap places in the first half of 2027; the class is not named, so community guesses (Chaplain, Apothecary, Judiciar) are guesses. For the fuller picture across Patches 15 through 19, the Year 3 roadmap breakdown is worth reading before you plan a long-term loadout around anything unreleased.

Common Misconceptions About Weapon Tier Lists in Space Marine 2

“Heroic automatically means better”

Not if the perk doesn’t fit your playstyle or the fight. A stat-stick Relic weapon with no conditions can beat a Heroic weapon whose bonus only kicks in after a headshot streak you can’t reliably land on Absolute.

“There’s one best weapon across every difficulty”

This is the exact assumption this guide is built to push back on. A weapon’s tier is only meaningful once you fix the class carrying it and the difficulty you’re running — the same gun can be top-tier on Ruthless and a liability on Absolute.

“You need one specific gun to beat the new Sorcerer”

The Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer is a positioning-and-counterplay fight more than a gear check. Saber’s own pre-launch tuning leaned that direction. Following feedback from the Public Test Server, Saber adjusted the enemy before launch by reducing beam attack damage, increasing cooldowns, lowering illusion health, and improving counterplay through additional dodge and Gunstrike opportunities. A squad that dodges and Gunstrikes well will beat it with almost any competent anti-elite loadout.

Our Take: Is There a Single Best Weapon for Absolute?

Nuestra opinión

No, and anyone selling you one flat “best weapon” list for Absolute is skipping the part that actually matters.

Patch 14’s changes are real but narrow — a handful of Heroic weapons and a few melee radii moved, not the whole meta. Saber hasn’t published a full damage-and-frame-data breakdown, so this list rates weapons by role and by how forgiving that role is at each difficulty, not by numbers nobody has confirmed. That’s the honest way to read a balance patch that mostly tuned perks and edge cases rather than rewriting the roster. The tier rows were written for Patch 14 and are updated here for Patch 15 and Hotfix 15.1 (8 October 2026) — check later hotfixes before trusting them wholesale.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is the best weapon for Absolute difficulty in Space Marine 2 right now?
There isn’t a single one. Heavy’s Multi-Melta stays reliable against Terminus-class targets across difficulties, but each class picks in its own slots: Heavy’s swarm answer is the Heavy Bolter or Pyrecannon, Tactical and Vanguard take the Melta Rifle for elite burst, Bulwark leans on the Power Sword and Assault on the Thunder Hammer — chosen against the mission’s enemy mix, not from one list.
Did Patch 14 buff or nerf the Melta Rifle?
The Salamanders Heroic Melta Rifle got buffed — Salamanders Melta Rifle damage increased by 10% with improved effective range. The base Melta Rifle wasn't part of the listed weapon changes.
Is the Absolvor Bolt Pistol available yet?
No. The Year 3 roadmap ties it to a new class placed in the first half of 2027. The One-Handed Thunder Hammer, by contrast, arrived with Patch 15 on 1 October 2026.
What's the best weapon against the new Thousand Sons Sorcerer?
Any solid anti-elite loadout works if your squad plays the dodge-and-Gunstrike pattern the fight is built around, since Saber tuned the encounter around counterplay rather than a single gear check before launch.
Do Heroic weapons replace Relic weapons on Absolute?
Only if you can consistently trigger their perk. Otherwise a well-rolled Relic or purple with flat stat bonuses is often the safer pick at the highest difficulty.
What did Patch 15 change for the Melta Rifle?
Base damage +65% (Heavy Melta +60%) with a shorter range and less ammo; Hotfix 15.1 moved the fall-off start from 2 m to 3 m on the standard versions and gave the Melta Rifle 12 rounds and a 6-round magazine. It is now a point-blank weapon.
Is the One-Handed Thunder Hammer in the game?
Yes, since Patch 15 on 1 October 2026, for Tactical, Assault, Bulwark and Techmarine. Hotfix 15.1 raised its base damage by 10% and charged attacks by 25%, and temporarily removed forced stagger from charging stances.
