Gold bars are the second currency in WARDOGS, and they’re the only thing in the entire economy that a season reset does not touch. Dinero is what you spend mid-match on weapons, gear and vehicles before every life, and it gets wiped down at the end of a season. Gold bars are different: Gold Bars are the endgame currency in WARDOGS, obtained by exchanging cash you have earned, and spent in the Gold Market on cosmetic unlocks, and they cannot be bought with real money. That last part matters — there’s no card-swipe shortcut here, on either currency.
If you’ve already read the WARDOGS money guide on how cash is earned and spent match to match, gold bars are the layer that sits above all of that — the thing you’re actually banking cash toward once you stop worrying about your next loadout.
En resumen
- Cash is spent every life on your loadout; gold bars buy permanent endgame cosmetics and never reset
- The cash-to-gold exchange rate floats daily, so converting is a timing decision, not a formality
- At season end your level progression and cash reset, and remaining cash auto-converts into gold bars — the in-game Gold Exchange panel’s own wording
- Gold bars and any cosmetics you’ve already unlocked carry over into the next season permanently
- Camos are not sold for real money — BULKHEAD’s stance since the pre-order post; cosmetics are what the Gold Market sells for gold bars, and community catalogues list per-skin gold prices
| Moneda | What it's for | Survives season end? |
|---|---|---|
| Dinero | Per-life loadout purchases: weapons, gear, vehicles | No — set and converted |
| Gold Bars | Endgame cosmetics in the Gold Market | Yes — permanent |

How the Daily Floating Exchange Rate Actually Works
This is the part that trips people up: the cash-to-gold conversion isn’t a fixed 1-to-X ratio you can plan around weeks in advance. The exchange rate of cash to gold bars “will fluctuate daily,” according to the developer. That single design choice turns every conversion into an actual decision instead of a checkbox you tick whenever you feel like it. Convert on a bad day and the same pile of cash buys you noticeably less endgame cosmetic progress than it would have 24 hours earlier or later.
Nobody outside BULKHEAD has published the exact mechanics behind what moves the rate day to day, so treat any claim of a “best time to convert” pattern as unconfirmed. What you can control is the questions you ask yourself before you commit:
Consejo
There’s no single correct answer here — converting early locks in a rate you can compare against nothing, and holding out risks a worse rate later or an automatic conversion you didn’t control. Treat it as a genuine trade-off each time, not a rule to follow blindly.
| Question to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is the season close to ending? | Unconverted cash auto-converts anyway at season end, so waiting isn't free insurance either |
| Do I need this cash for loadouts right now? | Converting locks that value into cosmetics you can't spend back into gear |
| Is today's rate better or worse than what I've seen recently? | A floating rate means yesterday's number is your only real reference point |
| Am I close to a WARDOG level milestone? | Some unlocks are tied to level, not gold bars, so timing a level-up can matter more than the rate |

Step-by-Step: What Happens When a WARDOGS Season Ends
The season-end sequence is one of the few things BULKHEAD has actually detailed publicly, likely because it’s the mechanic most likely to make players nervous about losing progress. Here’s the order it runs in:
The reasoning behind this isn’t arbitrary. BULKHEAD’s own leadership has framed it as a deliberate rejection of the total-wipe model common in other hardcore shooters: CEO Joe Brammer, drawing from his own experience with competitive shooters like Valorant, wanted Wardogs to avoid the total loss of progression found in some other hardcore titles, and the seasonal reset is designed so that value is not lost: cash converts to gold bars at season end. In practice your gold bar total and your cosmetic collection are a ratchet that only moves forward, season after season — while level progression and cash start over (see the panel text below).
Correction 19 September 2026
An earlier version of this page read the season-end rule as “XP progression sets” (locks in place). The in-game Gold Exchange panel, as quoted by several community sources, says: “At the end of a major update cycle your level progression and cash will be reset. The date of any major update and progression reset will be announced ahead of time. Any remaining cash at the end of a cycle will be automatically exchanged for gold bars.” We have not yet checked the panel in the client ourselves; the wording is consistent across the sources, so the page now follows it.
Update 24 September 2026
Season 2 is dated: 15 October 2026, per Bulkhead’s official Steam post of 22 September. The post gives the day only — no start time, and it does not say whether the cash and level reset lands on that same day. The earlier estimate and what else is known are in the Season 2 release date post; the sequence below is unchanged.
What the in-game Gold Exchange panel says happens at a season boundary, in order.
-
1
Cash balance locks
whatever you're holding at the season boundary stops being spendable mid-match.
-
2
Level progression resets
Per the in-game Gold Exchange panel, "your level progression and cash will be reset" at the end of a major update cycle; the date "will be announced ahead of time". For Season 1 it now is: Season 2 is dated 15 October 2026, with no time of day given. Gold Bars, Gold Market cosmetics and anything the studio moves to persistent account value carry on.
-
3
Remaining cash auto-converts
"Any remaining cash at the end of a cycle will be automatically exchanged for gold bars" (Gold Exchange panel) — a level playing field for newcomers and veterans on cash, with the value kept as Gold Bars.
-
4
Gold bars carry forward
gold bars also permanently remain on your account across seasons, same as any cosmetics you'd already unlocked.
-
5
New season starts fresh on cash
everyone, new player or veteran, opens the next season with the same starting cash baseline for loadout purchases.

What You Can (and Can't) Buy With Gold Bars
Gold bars spend in one place: the Gold Market, and only on cosmetics. There is no weapon, vehicle or stat advantage behind gold bars. BULKHEAD’s monetisation stance, printed in the pre-order announcement, is three lines: no monetisation during Early Access; “we will NEVER monetize in-game cash or gold bars, they must be earned through play”; and “we will NEVER allow you to directly purchase camos, camos should show that a player has worked hard to unlock that item not how much money they have.” Read the third line for what it is — no real-money shortcut to a camo — not as a ban on cosmetics costing gold bars: gold bars are themselves earned through play, and the Gold Market is where cosmetic unlocks are obtained with them. Our skins catalogue lists the known weapon and vehicle skins with their gold prices from the community catalogue (wardogshub.gg, beta client); BULKHEAD has not published an official price list, so treat those as the known figures rather than a guaranteed complete set.
Some cosmetics also sit behind progression rather than gold — the Supporter Edition camos come with the edition, and unlock levels for individual items are read in the client, not in any published list. Levels themselves are on the account-wide Career (Wardog) level and the role tracks covered in the role tracks guide; BULKHEAD has not published caps for either — the Season 1 XP table runs to level 50 as its last published row, which is a table limit, not a ceiling.
Advertencia
BULKHEAD hasn’t published whether a cash-to-gold conversion can be reversed once made. Until that’s confirmed, treat every conversion as final and don’t convert cash you might still need for a loadout purchase that season.
On the cost side: gold bars come from cash you chose not to spend on kit, so a healthy stockpile is a season of disciplined play, not a sitting. Nobody has published season length or per-match cash figures — including us — so treat any hour count you see as an estimate.
Common Misconceptions About WARDOGS Gold Bars
Myth: hoarding cash until the last day is the smart play
Because the rate floats daily and unconverted cash gets auto-converted anyway at season end, waiting doesn’t guarantee a better outcome — it just swaps one unknown rate for another unknown rate, plus the risk of a worse one right before the cutoff. It’s a valid strategy, not the correct one.
Myth: gold bars can buy weapons or vehicles
They can’t. Gold bars are strictly cosmetic currency spent in the Gold Market; anything that touches gameplay power runs through cash and the vendor systems covered in the WARDOGS metagame and Black Market guide instead.
Myth: your cash balance carries into the next season
It doesn’t — cash and level progression both reset, per the Gold Exchange panel. What survives is the value the cash was converted into (Gold Bars) and the cosmetics already bought with it. The starting cash baseline resets for everyone equally at season start.

Our Take: Is Chasing Gold Bars Worth It?
Nuestra opinión
Gold bars are the account-long payoff in a game built around per-match economic risk, and that’s a genuinely smart split once you understand it.
Splitting the economy this way means a rough season doesn’t erase your standing, while a floating rate stops the conversion from becoming a mindless end-of-season chore. The trade-off is that BULKHEAD is asking players to make a small financial decision — sometimes daily — inside a game that’s already asking for split-second combat decisions. Whether that layered decision-making lands as satisfying depth or as one system too many depends on how transparent the rate mechanics turn out to be now that the game is live (Early Access since 10 September 2026) — the daily rate is visible in the client, and BULKHEAD has not published the formula behind it.
