Psyonix&#8217;s support page puts it plainly: &#8220;Each car body in Rocket League uses one of six default body types, called hitboxes.&#8221; The same page states that all cars have the same stats, but each hitbox has small differences in length, width, and height. So a car&#8217;s name and looks don&#8217;t change how it plays. Two cars on the same hitbox handle the same on the pitch, whatever the model looks like.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why players say &#8220;I run Octane hitbox&#8221; rather than naming a specific car. The model is cosmetic, and the hitbox is the part that touches the ball. Standardised hitboxes arrived in Patch v1.35, the Anniversary Update, according to the community Fandom wiki. A 2022 Dignitas overview already described Merc as the category that <a href=\"https:\/\/dignitas.gg\/articles\/an-overview-of-hitboxes-in-rocket-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">contains the fewest cars in the game<\/a>, back when it held only the Merc, Nomad and Battle Bus. Psyonix&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketleague.com\/news\/rocket-league-heads-to-the-streets-in-season-24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Season 24 announcement<\/a> says three new Car Bodies headline the Rocket Pass: the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 (Octane hitbox), the Dominus GT 76 (Dominus hitbox), and the Pareto 5S (Breakout hitbox). That means all three new bodies play exactly like cars you may already own on those hitboxes.<\/p>\n<h3>Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50<\/h3>\n<p>This one uses the Octane hitbox, so it handles like the Octane and Fennec. The post lists it as a Rocket Pass car body. The tier it unlocks at isn&#8217;t in the text we read.<\/p>\n<h3>Pareto 5S<\/h3>\n<p>Breakout hitbox, per the same post. It&#8217;s also a Rocket Pass car body, and again the post text doesn&#8217;t give its tier.<\/p>\n<p>What switching hitboxes actually costs you: nothing, if you already own a body on the hitbox you want, because the new cars share their stats with every other car. The real cost is practice time to adjust. We haven&#8217;t measured it, and it depends on how far the new shape is from the one you&#8217;re used to.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"title","heading":"What Is the Best Car in Rocket League? The support page doesn&#8217;t rank cars or hitboxes, and it doesn&#8217;t publish any numbers for them. Since all cars share stats, &#8220;best car&#8221; really means &#8220;best hitbox for you&#8221;, and after that you&#8217;re choosing looks.<\/p>\n<p>Psyonix publishes no hitbox dimensions. Community sites (rocketleague-help.com and strafe.com, 2025) have measured them, and the table below keeps only what those measurements agree on about the shapes, not their decimals. For your own car there is now an official way to look: since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketleague.com\/news\/rocket-league-patch-notes-v270-season-23-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">patch v2.70<\/a> (9 June 2026), Offline Freeplay can render your car&#8217;s active hitbox as an in-game overlay.<\/p>\n<p>Psyonix doesn&#8217;t publish RLCS car usage; the figures you&#8217;ll find come from third parties. The most specific one we found is from the community stats account dRektRL: In June 2024 it reported the Fennec at 78.74% usage at one RLCS event. In that online season the top four cars were Fennec, Octane, Dominus and Mustang. Decisions, rotation and consistency usually matter more, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/neonsect.com\/rocket-league\/rocket-league-ranks-explained\/\">guide to Rocket League ranks and MMR<\/a> explains how climbing works.<\/p>\n<h3>Ground dribbling and all-round play: Octane<\/h3>\n<p>Our reading: Octane is the shortest hitbox in the community figures and the second tallest after Merc, which makes it a sensible default if you don&#8217;t have a preference. It&#8217;s also where Fennec lives, so you can switch between those two looks without changing how the car plays.<\/p>\n<h3>Flicks and power shots: Dominus or Breakout<\/h3>\n<p>Our reading: if you like hitting the ball with a long, flat nose, the longer and lower shapes are worth testing. In the community data, Breakout is the longest and Dominus is long and lower than Octane. The community figures put Hybrid slightly shorter and taller than Dominus, so it is another one to test if you prefer a taller shape.<\/p>\n<h3>50\/50s and challenges: taller hitboxes<\/h3>\n<p>Our reading: in the community figures, Merc is the tallest hitbox and Plank the lowest. That suggests Merc puts more body between you and the ball in a challenge, and Plank the least.
