The weather cycled between a Calm Dust Storm, the default state on loading into the New York map, which lasted up to 18 minutes (the timer restarted on each login), and an 8-minute Raging Dust Storm with even less visibility; after a Raging storm the weather returned either to a calm storm or briefly to clear skies. Every player who logged in during the event received the Parched Mask for free.

The Dust Devils punished range: they had 80% Status Resistance against Agents more than 26 meters away and dealt 50% less damage at that distance, but took 50% more damage from Agents within 10 meters, so close-range builds did best. Kill Squads of four Named enemies spawned on a six-minute timer and hunted you down; during a Raging storm enemies spawned continuously, up to six at once and up to 48 in a single Raging storm, and spawns did not trigger while you stood still. On top of the squads, 20 hidden caches were spread across New York: destroying one gave gear from the same pool as the Event Vendor’s Gear Caches and called in a group of Named Dust Devils, and the Dust Devils repaired the caches after each daily reset.

Keys were guaranteed on a kill count that scaled with difficulty: one key per 14 kills on Normal and Hard, 12 on Challenging and 10 on Heroic. The Daily Boost halved that requirement for your first 150 kills, resetting 24 hours after the first event squad you killed, so using those discounted kills first each day was the biggest efficiency lever in the event.

Storm Keys per 100 kills, by mode

Normal difficulty7 keys

Heroic difficulty10 keys

Heroic, Daily Boost (first 150)20 keys

Tip

Spawns paused while you stood still, so moving kept the kills flowing during a Raging storm; camping a corner slowed the key farm.

text

During a Raging Dust Storm, Dust Devils spawned continuously, up to six at once and up to 48 per storm.

Push to 50 named kills for the boss spawn
Near 50 Named Dust Devil kills a Call for Backup prompt appeared, and both bosses spawned once the 50 were reached.

Clear Pall and Black Lung together
Pall was a sniper with a Sniper Turret and Decoy who did not show up on Pulse; Black Lung was an LMG tank backed by an Artillery Turret. The Raging Storm phase, with continuous spawns and low visibility, also made the New York map feel dangerous again for a few minutes at a time.

Where it got grindy was the standard Rabid D50: a 10% Gear Cache roll on top of the key economy.
